Above all we want people to remember that there are three values we bring to this country. Family, God and hard work. |
I don't want this strike to happen. |
Obviously this next week is going to be crucial. We're going to see what national groups are doing. We're staying in line with them. . . . You have to be responsible about your actions, you can't take people outside to the streets all the time. We have to be very cautious in how we are perceived. |
The point is to demonstrate what a day without us would be like. Without us buying clothes, without us purchasing gasoline, without us buying food. . . . We have taken many steps forward, now is not the time to take steps back. |
The point is to show the entire community that without us many things would stop. |
There's going to be civil unrest and that's what worries me. It's going to scare the white public and it's not really against them. We should be working together. |
We have human resources, and we have economic power. The politicians haven't been doing a good job explaining this. |
We're supporting the national position for a day of rest. Not purchasing anything from stores, not purchasing gasoline. |
We've made our point clear. Now is the time to protect our people. We've been very fortunate to not have been provoked so far, but that danger is always there. . . . Now that we know people are listening to us, we have to be responsible in our decisions, we can't always put people out in the streets. |
When I saw 100,000 people I knew they were listening to us. We can't play with these people's lives. I'm thinking about people like my clients who work in the fields, people in construction, people who work two or three jobs. |
