I'd like to hope so. But in order for that to happen, we have to continue to come out here every day and play with the same type of intensity that we have played with. And we will get to that point. |
I'd like to know what that feels like. |
I'd love to be able to get my hands on Oliver, the sooner the better. I'd like to get him a routine and stretched out for the start of the season. |
I'm anxious to see the real Oliver Perez. I want to see him step forward and become the Oliver Perez I know he is. What he did in 2005 is not anywhere near what he did in 2004. But I know this for a fact, you don't do that by accident. |
I'm anxious, but I'm anxious everyday. I want to see this group of people perform. |
I'm certainly not the least bit shy or afraid of having young people out there competing, |
I'm certainly wondering about the one two-strike pitch that got called a ball. I'm really wondering about that one. |
I'm extremely pleased with the way Edwin Jackson performed. He has an opportunity to go home on a very positive note. |
I'm glad we got out of it without anyone getting hurt. |
I'm looking forward to spearheading this ball club to back to some of the days when the Pittsburgh Pirates were somebody you really had to deal with. I'm very anxious in making the players understand there is history here - history for them to be proud of and history for them to follow up on. |
I'm not advocating taking a ball on the first pitch every time up there. A couple of times (yesterday), the first pitch was there, and we swung at it. But I'm continuing to see these guys take smart approaches to hitting, and that's encouraging. |
I'm not advocating we take the first pitch every time we walk up there. But, if you're going to take a swing at a first pitch, have it be a really good swing. If we keep preaching that, there won't have to be a whole lot said if you make a weak out on a marginally bad first pitch. It's not the way you play winning baseball. |
I'm not going to sit there and second-guess my players. It's a youthful player. Let's be honest. |
I'm not saying things would have necessarily been different if Sean was in the lineup but I think it would have helped to have a hitter who combined to strike out less 100 times over the last two seasons up in the situation. You need to make contact with a man on second and none out, and I think Sean would have given us a great chance of doing that. |
I'm not sitting here suggesting that guys don't get hits on an 0-2 or a 1-2 pitch ... but ordinarily, on 0-2, you don't see balls get hammered. When you come up through a minor-league system, you know early on that when you get a hitter 0-2, a ball sitting right in the middle of the plate is not a very good location. |
