Healthy, he's one of the best players in the league. No one questions that. |
I think you've seen the best way to trade is player for player, |
If the veteran only has a year or two left on his contract, teams are hesitant to trade a draft pick for a player in that position. Why pay a big cap number for a guy you might only have for a short time? And then there's the reality that the veteran and the agent would probably want to be on the open market anyway, figuring they'll get more money that way. The system is not conducive to making a deal for a veteran. |
In Buck's case, he's been a flag carrier for us down in the locker room, on the field, and he's been great in the community. We hope he knows how much we appreciate what he's done for us. |
It happened quickly for us this year, but I don't think it was a fluke. I think we proved we've got a pretty good football team. We beat too many good teams to say otherwise. It was a special group. |
It was a situation where there are other receivers ahead of him on the depth chart and it became fairly apparent to us that he would not be in our long-term plans. We felt like this was the right opportunity to give Rod a chance to catch on with another team. |
It's been obvious from the day he interviewed that he was a good fit. We work well together. He has a great feel for what the Richardson family wants as owners, how they want the organization to function, all the things that are important to them. And he's got a great rapport with the players. |
It's good to have him back. We didn't want to lose him in the first place. He's our kind of person our and our type of player. |
It's just one piece of the puzzle. It's a guideline, but obviously you're looking for players that can come in and grasp the system you're teaching and what you want to do. |
Jason had a very good season for us and we're hoping he can pick up where he left off. We're glad to have him back. |
Just like any other player we will evaluate that at the end of the season. |
Nothing is signed, but it looks like we're close to terms. |
Nothing is signed, but it looks like we're close to terms. Hopefully we can get the language done here and have something to announce [Friday]. |

Obviously you don't like cutting a third-round draft pick. The flip side of that is Jovan Haye, a sixth-round draft pick, made the team. Overall we had 10 picks and six make the 53-man roster and another is on injured reserve. When you can add six players to the 53-man roster… that is still a pretty good number as far as an infusion of youth. |
