Occidental is a real community clinic and a lot of people who come here come from not only the town but from surrounding cities. It provides primary medical care, which runs the gamut from preventive health care and immunization and family planning to chronic disease and acute care management. |
That service grew out of a community need which emerged in the early eighties and is also indicative of how community health centers are responsive to specific needs in the community. |
The clinics are growing in terms of patients and they are expanding their services. Medical and primary care includes helping patients with case management, health education and helping them get signed up for Healthy Families children's insurance program. It's federally funded and was started several years ago. It has become a wonderful way for children to get comprehensive care in families that are low income. |
The community health centers are available and accessible to anyone in the community and we encourage people to use the health centers as their medical home. |
