It looks like the Houston and Galveston area has really lucked out.

There are some disturbing things that we're seeing. So, really we're asking people in the north coast of Florida on up into the Carolinas to pay close attention.

Most of (the latest computer projections on the storm's path) are keeping Debby in a more southerly track and that keeps it somewhat closer to Hispaniola and to Cuba.

But it's not all about numbers. What really counts is where they make landfall and how strong they are when they do.

It is going to head into the Carolinas. People in the Carolinas need to pay very close attention and do what emergency management officials are telling them to do.

As it hits the Yucatan peninsula, it has the potential to do catastrophic damage.

If it goes through the Yucatan Channel, there won't be much to weaken it.

From Maine to Cuba is a humongous difference in six hours.

It's going to be a long couple of days here for the Yucatan Peninsula.

If it stays over the Yucatan for any significant length of time and much of the circulation is over land ... that would obviously be terrible news for Mexico, but for the United States' interests, it means that we'll have a weaker hurricane coming out into the Gulf of Mexico and it will be slower in getting here.

It's going to be over the Yucatan over a long period.

We were hoping that it would weaken some before it makes landfall. We're not certain that will happen now.

This is not good news.

Homeowners in areas where previous hurricanes have damaged their property need to complete minor repairs before the next hurricane season. What seem like small items, a loose shingle for instance, will be weaknesses if another hurricane comes through, and could result in major damage if not repaired now.
