(In the first game) we played really well. It was a sound defensive game where we turned a couple of double plays, but I thought the story of the day was Craig Rodriguez. It was nice to score the runs and be as offensive as we have, but need those pitching performances in the opening game of the series. (Rodriguez) was really strong today. |
A sweep is a just a big blow. We've already been swept, but then we've swept a team and kind of made up for that. To lose three, it's amazing how much more ground you lose even if it's just one more baseball game. It's almost two games. It's a big deal (to win) after losing the first two. |
All the games count the same. It's a marathon. |
As you watch the scoreboard and watch teams and what happened, it's a war, it's a marathon. The only thing you can do is get ready for next Friday and come to play. Once that game is over, move to Saturday and so on. Anything can happen. |
At some point, we've got to stop it and turn it around and go in the other direction. Hopefully that time is coming. |
Baseball is so much about confidence. How you feel about your swing, your pitching. I don't think it's a false confidence. We know we have to play well to win. We didn't play well in March. We've seen both sides of it, which I think is a good thing. |
Buck was tremendous. That's the way he's pitched all year. This has happened to him a couple weekends in a row where the game's been tied or we've had the lead and we haven't been able to hold it for him. It's disappointing. |
Cisco was terrific tonight. Craig almost matched him pitch-for-pitch. But Crisp hits the homer. Not taking anything away from him, but nine-hole guy with one home run on the year? We're one pitch away. |
Cisco was terrific tonight. His command was brilliant. |
Crawford got ahead of hitters and made clutch pitches. He didn't walk that many, and we weren't able to get the timely hit like we did in the first game. |
Eighteen innings, to get eight hits. You're not going to win a lot of games. |
Everybody they run out there is good. |
For the short term, yes, you're concerned, because he hasn't had success three times in a row. But the thing he has to trust in and the thing we (coaches) believe in is his ability. He will be a winner, and he will keep getting opportunities. |
He only threw 47 pitches (Friday) and we just wanted to get him out there one inning and maybe two if it went real easy for him. We wanted him to pitch. Sometimes it doesn't work the way you want. |
He was big today. The home run was huge, but then the double with bases loaded just kind of knocked the wind out of them. |
