That's why you play the games. There's always things that you've got to get lined up for. I'm sure they're working on their running game, and we've got to make improvement on our defense ... or all of a sudden a team like that could rush for 250, 300 yards. |
The (Rebels') defense did a good job with their blitzes, and they're fast up front. They deserve a lot of credit. |
The biggest thing on the no huddle is you've got to get lined up quickly and you've got to communicate, ... It's hard to simulate that during the course of practice when you're holding up cards and still showing them plays but our defense has talked about it since day one of training camp. We've worked on it hard for the last 10 days. |
The effort was really, really good. I thought we looked real good on defense. We talked about getting to the ball and making plays. Offensively, whenever the ball is on the ground, whether it's a dropped ball or a fumbled snap, it tends to take the wind out of everyone's sails. I think that's what happened. We had a chance to make big plays and didn't do it and guys got frustrated. |
The first defense did a nice job. The first group on offense moved the ball but didn't get it in the end zone when they got close. (Kicker) Jamie Christensen had a good day. |
The knowledge that his players have of the passing game and making adjustments are things that have always stood out. |
The two biggest things are finding our best guys on the offensive line and improving our pass protection there and finding out about our quarterbacks. We're looking for a guy that is going to open it up and replace Brodie. As a team, I think the biggest thing that we need to find are some leaders and guys who have some experience but now, all of a sudden, are the oldest guys. |
The two quarterbacks were average. |
The two quarterbacks were average. Really nothing to write home about. |
Their guy does a good job and makes good decisions. He moves around and buys time. He can run with it. |
There is a lot of talk about where we are compared to where Auburn was last year, but we think everything is right in front of us, |
There is no way to simulate what they do by any means. You just try to give them the best look that you can with our scout team offense. We have tried to spend a little more time going against ourselves, our first teams going against each other. Not necessarily scheme wise, but just to keep up with the speed of the game. |
There was a lot of good effort and our attitude was pretty good. Our execution wasn't very good at all. We were slow reacting, playing too high. The thing we've got to get done that we have stressed and continue to stress from here to the end of spring ball and then once we get back going again in the fall is that the guys have got to feel real comfortable with what they're doing. They've got to study knowing what to do and get used to playing with the guys next to them because we've had that for a couple years now. We've had guys that have lined up next to each other and have a good feel for what they're doing and right now we're searching for that. |
There was never frustration. I never sensed that. Guys would just get together with their coaches and figure out what the next play was going to be. |
There were a lot of questions about how we could match up against a talented team. Hopefully we answered some of those. |
