All the guys I've mentioned are playing. I'd just like to see a little more increased role with them to see if these young players can actually carry us to victory against a team with a winning record. Because they are the future of this organization, whether I'm standing here at the podium next year or someone else is. |
And let's face it, you can't win a horse race with a mule. And you can't win a football game without better players. We're better this year because we have better players. Plain and simple. |
Any sucker can pilot the ship when everything's smooth and the sun's out and you've got a piña colada in your hand with sunglasses and a Cuban (cigar), |
Atrocious, ... We were out of rhythm, so we have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball. A lot of work to do. |
Because in order to play at this level at this speed, you've got to be able to think on your feet, ... And if you can't think on your feet, you can't play in the National Football League. |
Before Nate got injured, we felt that his best chance to find a reason to suit him up would be to return kicks. Now that Nate is injured, that doesn't need to be the fact. How much of a role he has we'll see as the week progresses. |
Bennett looks fantastic. I almost caught myself just now saying he looks as good as Robert Smith in his prime. But I don't want to go there yet because Robert was a heck of a player. ... But Michael is going to have a special year. |
best young lineman we've brought in since Birk (sixth-round pick in 1998). |
Brad is a very good quarterback, he's won a Super Bowl. We have faith in Brad. |
Brad's more of a rhythm thrower, ... He's going to get that thing out real fast. You'll see a lot of throws where he'll get the ball out and guys won't have been turned around. In layman's terms, those are called timing routes. That suits his style more. |
But it's really not the play, as much as about the last five minutes of the game; what went wrong, the players celebrating when it was 17-6 and me yelling at the players. And one of the players grabbing me and telling me to 'Settle down, we've got it under control.' All the stuff that went on. |
But the good captain's got to pilot ship through the rough waters and get it to home port. That's my challenge as the head coach because it all falls on me. |
But then you have a fumble ? |
But you certainly don't want to lose one of your top players. It's like losing a key coach. You take a step backward. |
can tear a team apart or bring us together, and it's my job to bring the team together. |
