Lampson's happy to see the Republicans fight among themselves at least for the next two weeks (in the primary). |
Looking inside the skimpy primary tea leaves for little tidbits, the one interesting and dangerous thing for Tom DeLay that I see is that he ran poorly in his home county. He took under 56% of the primary vote among local voters who presumably know him best, compared to almost 70% elsewhere in the district...not a good sign for the coming war with the Democratic challenger. |
Occasionally, someone has run against DeLay. But I don't recall any attention being paid, and I don't think the congressman took the challenge seriously. This is the first primary where he has had to extend himself. |
Right now, Lampson's cash on hand reflects the fact that he can hoard his money. |
That special election showed there's some real disenchantment with conservatives in general and in a district that was supposed to be safely Republican. |
The nominee should be in a stronger position than Tom DeLay, who I think correctly concluded it was not a winnable race but not nearly as strong a position as a regular Republican nominee. |
There could be some negatives over time. It's a high-wire act and no American city lately has absorbed anywhere near this number of people so quickly, |
There is huge irony here. Six Democrats in Congress were eliminated, but the seventh victim may turnout to be the author of the plan. |
There is little prospect of receiving any significant payments against the fees outstanding. |
There's a real chance, it's not the most likely chance, but there's a real possibility that that's the way the race could play out. |

They are working extremely long hours often. They really don't have much time for politics in this culture. You can't win by mobilizing Hispanics in Houston yet, but they are, year by year, becoming a more significant voting block in this city. |
We have done everything possible to persuade the player to stay but there is little point in keeping a player when he is so determined to leave. We also have to take account of the effect on all the other players at the club who are committed to us and what we are trying to achieve here. |
We sat down yesterday [Friday] to have a chat and we both decided it was best if Alan left at the end of the season. |
We're really excited about it. We're also encouraged by the number of competitors who've signed up. So long as the weather holds up, we should have a great day. |
