Apple does great products, but at the end of the day we think consumers want choice, consumers want openness. |
As we're rolling out to the stakeholders who make the decisions as to how to deploy the networks, ... their response has been hugely positive. |
Because Microsoft seems to sometimes not trust customer choice, they salt XP with all these little gizmos and trap doors to get people to try Microsoft stuff. But the reality is that we're downloading more players than we ever have on a worldwide basis. |
Consumers should say, 'Apple, we won't buy your music until you make your DRM interoperable,' |
I think all this stuff, ultimately, is going to blow over, ... Once the record companies make their collections available in a reasonable way, from an economic standpoint, consumers don't have to choose between not downloading or downloading illegally. |
I think I enjoy working for a company of a size big enough to get things done but that's still nimble. |
I'm like a kid in a candy store |
In terms of market dynamics, just look at the broadband trend and the growth in the wide range of devices. I wouldn't say we're going into an era where PCs are irrelevant, and I certainly wouldn't say that to PC Magazine, but I think we're going into an era where the PC is just one of a number of important devices. |
In terms of technology trends, a new operating system like XP makes a big difference. It makes the PC more stable and robust, so you can be running background tasks as your PC operates effectively as a hub or a server in your environment. Those are positive dimensions of a new operating system. |
Mobile entertainment is a huge opportunity. We are committed to mobile just as much as we are to PCs. |
My sense is, it's actually kind of an interesting dynamic. Microsoft, for reasons that I don't understand - but I welcome - seems to be trying to cram a proprietary Microsoft-only agenda down the throat of the entire consumer electronics industry, and the entire mobile industry, and the entire media industry. |
My view is that the opportunities in front of us are very good, and we'll continue to more than hold our own on the PC. |
Our collaboration with @Home is another crucial step forward in enabling the Internet as the next mass medium for both consumers and content providers. |
Our third quarter results demonstrated the ongoing strength of our business model. We also delivered on the growth strategies that are enabling us to expand our industry leadership position, including advancements focused on accelerating the adoption of Internet media and the viable business models to support it. |
Our two growth businesses have been music and games so if you could do acquisitions that accelerate that I wouldn't rule it out. |
