[Leading Democrats were on Schwarzenegger's side then. That collapsed this year. A series of proposals by the governor antagonized teachers, nurses, police officers and firefighters. Since March, they have run a barrage of TV spots that have shredded his popularity.] He made the mistake of taking on the first responders, ... That was just plain crazy. |
Every day in office, he became less and less an action hero and more and more another politician. He had to. But he promised not to. |
He made the mistake of taking on the first responders. That was just plain crazy. |
He's got to charm the pants off the delegates. That would help. The question is: How does he do it? |
I think he understands he needs to build a record if he is running for re-election and a legacy if he is not. He has taken a page from the Pat Brown playbook. |

My guess is he's going to stay away from anointing candidates, having been burned once. He's not stupid. If he wants to run for the center, he can't embrace a set of candidates against the conservative wing or one that comes from the conservative wing. That's politically dicey whichever way he goes. |
red meat for the party faithful and will make the Democrats go sky high. |
Schwarzenegger is clearly annoyed as he asked that the president not come until after the election because he did not want to compete for cash. |
The key saying for Republicans to remember here is that winning isn't everything, but losing isn't anything. |
The more the conservative right is vocally angry, the more centrist he will look. |
The permutations and combinations are endless. It's like a game of three-dimensional chess. |
