Since 2002, we have been doing more with less, and we have slipped below the national average in per-pupil spending. We urgently need to reinvest in our schools. |
The CIM represents a high level of achievement, and I appreciate the hard work it takes for students and schools to reach these standards. However, CIM distribution is very uneven across the state. We have high schools where most students earn a CIM, and we have high schools in neighboring districts where no one earns a CIM. As it stands now, the CIM is not meaningful for all students. |
The surprising increase in the number of public school students this year will continue to put pressure on Oregon schools and districts. We already face some of the largest class sizes in the country, and the combination of increased enrollment and decreased school funding makes it even harder for classroom teachers to ensure that every student is successful. |
