[The man] entered the building as part of a group that was known to us. He saw the child and took him. The child protective supervisor tried to prevent him from leaving but he was much larger than she was, so she was unsuccessful. |
One of the issues that always comes up is how can we protect our children better, what type of changes if any need to be made. Although I can say that I have been doing this work for 13 years, and we have never had an incident like this. |
The child protective supervisor tried to prevent him from leaving, but he was much larger than she was and she was unsuccessful. But, I want to say is that because we have the team approach at the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center, we contacted Plano police and we were able to respond immediately. The really wonderful part is that we have a happy ending we have a safe child. |
We are a secure facility; you cannot get into our building unless you are buzzed in. He came in with a group that was known to have access; naturally, we are going to look at what needs to be done differently. |
You have to make sure that there is a balance; that it doesn't seem scary to the children. The whole idea of an advocacy center, it's supposed to be a child-friendly place where a child could feel secure and be able to tell their stories. |
