A great catch. He tracked that ball pretty well. I didn't think he was going to get there. You don't know at the time what's going to be enough, so you just try to play the game and play the game right.

When your starter gives you seven, it certainly makes your options a lot better. You don't have to ask guys to do more than they're supposed to. Your chances to win are certainly a lot better.

On a day when it looked like a couple runs might do it, we got a left-handed hitter coming up next and a guy [Gonzalez] that can do it.

I've seen him for a long time and he should be confident. But last year he wasn't healthy.

It's nice to give him the ball. I have a lot of confidence in the young man.

He's going to do great. I think the interest that the Red Sox generate ... I think he'll thrive on that. I just think maybe his personality and the interest, he knows people are watching him.

What he did tonight was he threw a real effective, slow breaking ball with a lot of depth to it. A real good spin rotation. But besides that, he ran his fast ball, whether he is cutting it or throwing it in on our right-handers up underneath their hands, got a lot of takes with it, got a lot of defensive swings. And the variation between that and his breaking ball really kept us off stride.

He competed right away and handled everything. Nothing seems to shake this kid.
