A lot of people didn't think we were going to win this game. I'm glad we turned it around. We're better than our record (8-19), but we just have trouble with the little things. |
All of the players on our team know their roles. I think everyone has finally accepted their roles. |
Geneva is here, so that's almost one team you have to pencil into a spot. |
He was our No. 1 scorer in our first two tournaments. He hits the ball very straight and will par you to death. He'll make pars all day and wait for you to make bogeys or doubles. He's starting to make more birdies but he's just so consistent. |
I'm proud of them for getting back into the game and at least giving themselves a chance. It just wasn't meant to be. |
I've been telling them that we need to play more as a team and quit relying on Candace (Norville) to carry us. This shows that we're starting to believe in ourselves and each other. |
Rich told me before our tryouts he would qualify top three in varsity and he wasn't lying. |
She (Norville) just needed to utilize her quickness. It's obvious she's quicker than anyone on the floor. And she did a good job squaring her shoulders and feet on the 3-pointers. |
She's a heck of an athlete. We have to have diversified scoring where we get some other people some points. |
She's quicker than anybody on the floor and that's obvious. But if anything, she has a tendency to shoot too quickly. I told her to get her whole body looking at the basket, get your elbow underneath you and follow through. She did that. |
That second quarter was very nice. We cut their lead to four. At halftime, I thought we had a chance, but we didn't meet Geneva's intensity out of the locker room. They came out like the 23-3 team they are and put it to us. |
That's just composure because we're not used to winning. We're not used to having that type of lead. We got a little nervous and it showed. |
The girls came out and did what I asked them to do, which is play together and play extremely hard. |
There are a lot of teams that are potential winners out here (today). |
They just don't know how to win and they don't know what it takes. They're not buying into my philosophy of doing what you have to do. They don't realize that if they just keep doing what they were doing for the entire game then you can cut (their lead) to four or six and get back in the ballgame. |
