Obviously they were both highly recruited pitchers, so I definitely expect them to do what they're doing. But they still have to improve. They're two freshmen that are making progress to be better. |
Our pitchers threw great. They were getting ahead in the count and forced them to chase their pitches a bit. Their hitters are good and [Stevens and freshman Stacey Nelson] did a good job of keeping them off-balance. |
Our pitching staff still has to improve, and they know that. If they can get over the hump and make quality pitches, and we can cut our strikeouts down, we'll be in every ball game this weekend. |
She's a gutsy kind of performer. I really like her style. She does a lot of things, and if she's not swinging very well, she can drop down a bunt. |
She's probably not finished yet. She's in a good little groove there. |
Stacey Nelson and Stacey Stevens have separated themselves from the pack and are getting the ball more consistently now. But I still think we're going to go with the one-two-three punch [with Nelson, Stevens and Littlejohn] and go that way through the whole [Southeastern Conference] season and regular season. |
There are no easy games. We've got a tough game at their place. We have got to improve everything every day. There's nothing special about playing them. They bring a high level of intensity and we have to do the same. |
They (Nelson and Littlejohn) came in playing a game. That helped Stacey stop analyzing every pitch and just throw. She's just living in the moment. |
This team is starting to believe in themselves a little bit. |
We don't pay attention to anything like that. All we're looking to do is to improve every single day and that's all I can ask for as a coach. |
We knew if we were going to have a chance against Michigan we were going to have to get some clutch hits. We showed a lot of patience at the plate in the seventh inning and Lindsey Cameron came through with that clutch hit. |
We played good defense, and that's the name of the game. You have to do a good job limiting opponents to just three outs and fight through adversity, and we did that tonight. |
We were struggling. It was easy to see that their pitcher was doing a great job. It looked like we were guessing a little bit. She was throwing strikes, and we're looking for balls. She's throwing balls, and we're looking for strikes. |
We won't know the true ramifications of a quality schedule like this until the end of the year when it comes selection time. That's what our goal is. We don't care about wins and losses. |
