It's almost like pitching - you can never have enough catching. There aren't any predetermined things here as far as the roster goes. The possibility of carrying three catchers exists. I'm not saying it's an absolute, but we'll have 10 or 11 days to evaluate it after getting (Ross) in here.

The Reds, our medical team and Vern's doctors are working closely together to make sure everything is being done to treat his illness.

Ownership has been great. I can't say enough. I've really been happy with what I've been able to do.

Pete really liked him. (Ross) is a guy who can catch, throw and handle a (pitching) staff.

Terry Ryan tied it all together about how to run a first-class organization. That's what I intend to do with the Reds. The Twins are the model.

That would be the logical thing that would happen, but I've got to make sure he got through (Monday's) game OK.

That's how he's going to learn how people think. That's the beauty of it. We don't have formal meetings, per se. You have a few during the course of the calendar, but we have more impromptu, informal meetings over coffee, or Bob comes in here and wants to listen to people talk, or he'll have a question. It's been really a nice arrangement.

That's what you want. You need that depth.
