He's banged up and sore a little bit, but the good news is that obviously there's no breaks and no surgery will be needed. As soon as he can start catching and jogging, we'll get him to do that and then ease him into practice as soon as he can go. But he'll probably be riding the [stationary] bike [Friday]. |
He's been a wonderful husband and father, and those things are very important to him. I think for a man, he's been an exceptional good friend to a lot of other men. Not only in coaching, but in our church, and some of his friends from high school. I don't know anybody who has anything bad to say about Gary. |
He's been swinging well. The last couple days, I thought about putting him up higher [in the order], but he's been hitting down in the order, sixth or seventh, and I didn't really want to mess with it. If they bring in somebody besides [Mark] Mulder, the way he's been swinging, I'd like to see him face him. |
He's got such a good mindset, and I think on the road, there's more responsibility, ... Once you give it up on the road, you can't come back and score. It seems like you have to be a little more airtight on the road than at home, though it's the same priority. At home, you have a little bit of a safety net. |
He's just demanded that every single guy come and work hard and if you do that the trainings will be short. I think they would have been shorter at this time of the year anyway, but they've been intense for sure. It's very typical of probably how he grew up with coaches -- no mistake goes unpunished really. |
He's more on the straight and narrow with his Christian views and I can respect that. I don't necessarily agree with it — I definitely don't agree with it — but if that's working for him ... I don't want to judge anybody because of what they do, ... I just don't agree with the ideals and the idea of it. |
He's really good about putting his words into actions. He can also show you what he means. If you don't get it, he'll sit there with you and walk you through it, but he's not a pushy guy. You've got to want what he's giving you. He won't come after you that way. You have to want to pick up what he's saying. |
He's somewhat complicated, a little bit of a freak, and that's the reason we have him. We have to get him here earlier, he takes a little more care, but it's just him. You have to listen to the horse, understand what he's telling you. Josephine Abercrombie was generous enough to let us stay at Pin Oak Farm. |
He's still very weak. I really don't know when I can get him off a mound, let alone in a game. So the clock is ticking, and it's not going to stop. It's going on nine or 10 days since he's pitched a game. These are all the things you can't make up for. All you can do is, first and foremost, get him healthy. |
He's very intense. He's an excellent recruiter – he works very hard at it. He has an idea what it takes to win there – he's been an assistant coach there, he's been on Pete Carroll's staff down at USC so he has some great recruiting ties in Southern California. He's already doing an excellent job at it. |
Health and fitness is the first-line approach to avoiding debilitating and even life-threatening complications that come with overweight, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure,?;stroke and joint problems. Imagine walking into the doctor's office and being told you have diabetes. Why go there? |
His attitude has been terrific. (Glynn, an assistant captain, and Nanavati) have handled it perfectly. They both played last year and pretty much split their duties. Their attitudes have been terrific. They understand that. Without that positive attitude, I don?t think we are going to have the same success. |
How many ways did Amber's absence affect us? ... I think today I can tell you. We are much further ahead in training camp because we're not trying to find a right side. We spent much of last year's preseason just filling that gap and now we don't have to do that. We're further along than we were a year ago. |
How nearly is natural affection connected with the love of God (for if we love not our Brother whom we have seen how can we love God whom we have not seen how can we love God whom we have not seen), but I live in hopes and expectation of several upon the road, which may arrive, perhaps sooner than I expect. |
I am asking the American government to admit its mistakes and to apologize for my treatment. Throughout my time in the prison, I asked to be brought before a court but was refused. Now I am hoping that an American court will say very clearly that what happened to me was illegal and cannot be done to others. |
