He's big for us. What he brings to the table, not just health-wise, but just in his attitude and his approach to the game is big for our club. He knows how to get the job done -- no matter what. He'll find a way to get it done. For our team, that's one of the guys we look to to be one of the jump-starters of our lineup, or in the clubhouse or whatever it might be. |
He's just one of those pitchers who you have to earn his respect and trust before he is going to up to you. When I caught him in Arizona I hadn't really broken into the big leagues. I was scared and nervous, but now it's a little bit different. Plus after catching Wake it's like catching warm butter with a sharp knife. I don't know how I ever missed a ball before. |

I am excited to share my experiences in Cairo. There has been steadily increasing contact with the Arab world by ordinary Americans who are trying to understand America's situation in the world context. I will be an intermediary between these Americans and the Arab world. I hope to ease confusion over what is presumed about Arab/Muslim culture and what is factual. |
I am glad to get out of here with a win. This game got really sloppy and it looked like we were starting to let it slip away. I am proud that we finished strong and earned the victory. I thought we shot the ball extremely well in the first half and that really went a long way towards this win. This is a big win for our young team in a very difficult place to play. |
I bet that if [molecular biologists] come to use the genes responsible for cranial morphology, our results will certainly agree. When the earliest Native Americans are taken into account, it becomes clear that the two most different and opposite architectural plans in terms of human cranial morphology existing today on the planet were represented in the New World. |
I called for it real loud, about three or four times before I hit him, but I didn't hear him at all. You're running, the crowd is loud, the wind is blowing. And the ball was in the sun, too, so you couldn't take your eye off it. That was no fun. The worst part is I didn't expect it. It would be different if you expected it and could brace yourself, but I couldn't. |
I came back to San Francisco and spent more time in the neighborhoods like Chinatown and the Mission that I hadn't been in much before. I tried to get a feel for all parts of the city, so when I wrote the book, the neighborhoods would be like characters. There are scenes where all Charlie does is walk through neighborhoods, and it's like an Impressionist painting. |
I didn't start off so well, ... I was returning badly in the first set and a half and he had some chances off my serve early in the second. I changed the way I was playing and I think it threw him off and towards the end of the second I started to take my ground strokes much better. I feel I played pretty solidly in the third. It was a good match and I enjoyed it. |
I don't have to make a name for myself by talking on the microphone. I made a name for myself when I go out there and play football. I feel like what I've done in this league speaks for itself. I started six out of the seven years I've been here. I went to the Pro Bowl three out of the seven. If they don't know who I am now, they are never going to know me anyway. |
I don't know. Obviously, it's a major crisis that has happened in his life. He's a young man who is very close to his mother and very close to his family. But I think I've gotten to know this young man and he's such a quality person and he cares so much about this hockey team that I believe he'll come in and do his very best to pay attention to what has to happen. |
I don't mean to suggest that our hometown was perfect. We never thought it was, even then. Hope was segregated, like the rest of the South. It had its share of human frailty and vice. But kids were taught, growing up, to respect the dignity of each individual. There was a genuine sense of community in Hope, that crossed income lines and in many ways, race as well. |
