I did not have that conversation when I visited with him, ... But I had a conversation with the White House today about this subject -- and I'm not at liberty to divulge who the person is -- but I was assured by somebody who was in the room during visits with other senators that he considers one man, one vote a bedrock of our system. I was told he discussed it with Senator Kennedy. |
I don't know if that result will give us an advantage or not. You can look at it two ways. They might be on a downer and maybe the long journey back home will have affected them and they could be a wee bit less focused than they normally would be for the game. But they could just as easily be fired up - after a heavy defeat you often want to get back to winning as soon as possible. |

I don't relate to machismo ... If anything, it's about letting go of the definitions we've had of men and women, and that women are somehow weaker. Not in the experiences I've had with women in my life: I don't find my mother to be weak, and my wife is certainly not weak. As far as men being domineering and physical and violent, my father is not. My brothers aren't. I hope I'm not. |
I don't think you guys ever heard me say I wasn't pleased with the way he was playing until the last game. Even with all the other stuff that's going on every other week, I've never said anything except I was pleased with the way he's been playing and way he's trying. The last game, he was not aggressive. He shot the ball seven times. He deferred. I expressed that. That's one game. |
I feel like we're able to take coaching. You know the coaches are going to raise their voice and they're going to try to challenge you. Now we're taking it in and learning from our mistakes instead of getting mad at the coaches. We understand now that's their job. They're just trying to make us better. We understand they have to win and we have to win. It's just a learning process. |
I felt like our team learned a lot today. I think our guys understand a little bit more how hard you've got to compete, and I'm talking about physically. Our guys play with great emotion and energy, but there's also a physical side they've got to learn. They are an unfinished product, but they really try. We played aggressively, we got up and down the floor and we played our style. |
I give those guys credit over there, ... They have a worse record. They're battling. And that's what we should be doing, to be honest with you. That's the kind of way you're supposed to play. At this point, they have nothing to play for except for what you're supposed to play for: It's another game. That's the job, and they seem to be doing a better job of it than we are right now. |
I have a firm belief in the marketplace, ... Every day, every seller, whether it's a seller of gasoline or a seller of services -- an employee --, wants to raise the price of his or her product, but they face competition. If I want a raise, but there's someone else out there willing to do my job for less, then my boss is going to tell me that if I want a raise, get on the elevator. |
I have a great deal of respect for people who stay in a program without the benefit of a scholarship and go through the grind every day, just hoping for that one time when they are able to put a uniform on and play in the college game. There are a lot of guys around the country who do that, and you have a great deal more respect for those guys than the guys who play on scholarship. |
I have since then been advised by the doctors that it may be in my best interests to forego playing this year and continue my rehab in hopes of returning in September. (Clarke) and the organization are all aware of those conversations that I've had with the doctors, and I told them that I would let them know as soon as I have made a decision and felt comfortable with that decision. |
I have to give Ibo (Cooper) his props, as a musician and the kind of musician who can lead a band or do anything musically. I can say that it was from him that I really learnt. Ibo was very disciplined, but moreover he knew the music. He had the training and was so able to teach many of us. He was fearless, because he knew the music. Musically, I must give him his props, big props. |
I have written a lot of films that didn't get made for one reason or another and I have one called The Women in Black that I hope will get made next year. And there were others that got made that I wrote under different names, I always think that better directors write the scripts because if you can't write, and you don't have anything to say, then what's the point of making films? |
I hit everything so hard this year. I had the biggest tour I've ever done, I had a record to finish that was real important to me, and, of course, I had something new in my personal life, and I was trying to do that, too. It really ended up being too much. At some point, I just got exhausted. I'd go from the road to the studio and back to the road, and it was that cycle all summer. |
