We open up the gym two nights a week, from 7 p.m. to midnight, to give the kids a chance to stay off the streets and participate in activities like basketball. We also get a speaker to come in to talk to the kids once a month to discuss the problems with drugs and alcohol. It's sort of a prevention and intervention program. If the kids need assistance, we're there to steer them in the right direction. |
We play within the rules. Yes, we cut, but we emphasize and teach fair play. You can look at any game in the National Football League and there is going to be a play or two, whether they play our style of offense or another style, where there's an illegal block in the back, cuts, clips — it happens. We never, ever ask our guys to do anything illegal or to hurt anybody. We're not out to hurt anybody. |
We really don't discuss or dwell on confidence. I just think it is within us. There is a great desire and drive to do our best,. I am excited for the seniors who worked so hard to improve their game last summer and I am excited for Lauren, who has been much more competitive this year on the floor. She knows she has a lot of pressure on her shoulders and she does everything we ask of her and then some. |
We seem to be ready to go. One thing I am doing this weekend is taking away expectations. We have had 10 days to work on getting better, so we will see how they come out on Saturday. The great thing is every match is important under the new NCAA Championship guidelines. It doesn't matter who the opponent is, because you are really shooting against the whole country trying to put a good score together. |
We thought this would be the best time to do it. You also have the Winter Warm-Up next weekend (Jan. 14-16), and there are a lot of players that are going to be in town. A lot of our fans are in town, and there's just a lot of buzz about baseball. A lot of the guys will be at the Warm-Up, and then they'll be at our show, too. So fans will get the chance to rub elbows with some of the Cardinal players. |
We were inspired to write the book because both of our fathers were in the war. Mine was in the Army Air Forces and my husband's was in the Navy. They never talked about their experiences which made us very curious. My husband later found letters from his father about seeing movies during the war and many were ones we had seen as well. The book was a way of finding out about a time that fascinated us. |
We were performing in Puerto Rico one time. I'd had surgery and couldn't perform the dance routines. The crowd was calling out, 'La colora!' He couldn't figure out what that meant, though he spoke fluent Spanish. Finally, someone said, 'The redhead!' They wanted me to dance. He tried to explain why I couldn't, saying I'd had surgery. 'Want to know where she had it?' he asked the crowd. 'In Las Vegas!' |
We were sad to see it come down without any notice. We understand that it's privately owned and on private property, but from our perspective, it would have been nice to have been given notice so we could have taken photos, or gotten historical things out of the building. There also could have been some options for the state of Oregon to have taken it over through a historical trust or as a nonprofit. |
We'll absorb Jamie's loss and move forward and, to be honest with you, I'm not going to get real wrapped up in it this week. I have one other priority that sits a little higher than replacing Jamie, as valuable as he was, and I have a lot of confidence in the people that I have that we'll be able to absorb it for the short-term until we find a replacement. But I'm not going to let it be a distraction. |
We're excited about it. Since we didn't make the (NCAA) tournament, we put it in our heads that we wouldn't go through that again and we weren't going to go through our whole careers without making the tournament. The people who are going to be back, we work well together. ... Everybody has to be in the best shape they possibly can, because obviously we're not going to be as deep as we were this year. |
We're just looking to see if we can get someone in the right place more often. If you look at the charts, he rarely hits a ball on [the left side] of the field in the infield, rarely. It might be a pop up now and then. ... He can bunt if he likes. You know, God bless him. It's just a matter of you've got all this information, why accumulate all this information then not use it? I don't quite get that. |
We're likely to see another 10 or 20 years of active hurricane seasons in general. It's not going mean every season's going to be busy. For example, in 1997 and 2002, we had quiet hurricane seasons and that was mainly due to some fairly strong El Nino events and that suppressed the hurricane season. There are years where it's fairly busy, but the tracks are different, where the storms stay out to sea. |
We're one of the fastest growing poker sites on the web today and we're really excited about dealing over 300 million hands to our players. We're pretty passionate about ensuring our players have the best possible experience when they're playing online at AbsolutePoker.com so we've recently given them the option to easily customize their tables and we've also made some back-end technical improvements. |
We've been watching our own Microsoft(R) internal marketplace service for the past couple of years and were inspired by employee behaviors. Regardless of the transaction, we noticed that trust and convenience are the key factors to closing a deal. What sets Windows Live Expo apart is that people can set their own search parameters for goods and services. They can define their own marketplace universe. |
We've had a pretty good run. We took a pause today (Friday) but it's very quiet and there's no one around. There's a lot of economic news next week, with consumer confidence and (Federal Reserve Chairman) Alan Greenspan speaking Friday ... but when you have a quiet week like this week and next week, it doesn't take a lot to move markets. So it's (next week) going to be a volatile week and a quiet one. |
