 We began with an afternoon of brainstorming ideas about what we wanted the conference to address. We let these ideas sit for a couple weeks and continued e-mailing comments over the e-mail list-serve before meeting again and narrowing down our brainstormed themes, cutting and pasting different ideas in different ways until we finally came to a theme we liked. There was a lot of debating and melding of ideas.

 We believe this success is a direct consequence of companies' improved management of the M&A process, from target selection and pricing, to due diligence to implementation. In the future, this learning curve will certainly continue. So, while gaining competitive advantage through M&As is now a legitimate business strategy for growth, long-term success will depend on increasingly sophisticated M&A capability.

 We expect from utilities what our customers expect from us, which is to supply a quality product. Our customers demand we focus on products that are reliable and make going about their day more convenient and easier. We expect from our utilities that they provide reliable power service so we can concentrate on our customer needs without having to set aside resources that do not focus on our customers' needs.

 We have depth and I think we all hope the glass will remain half-full. Usually, it's somewhere in between. I think we're trying to guard against if we have someone with an injury or someone who's not throwing well, it's not going to cost us a lot of games. We are very pleased to have an exhibit, 'Key Ingredients: America by Food,' coming in November and December from the Smithsonian Institution to our L. Haas Museum. We feel that this is a great honor to our community.

 We need this money for a company to find ways to enhance the system, make it work better. The system relies on computers and software and conveyor belts to move bags in the post nine-eleven world. Usually it works well. But in peak times, like the December holidays and with March and April coming up, the system tends to get overwhelmed and break down. That's when we have to have people move the bags by hand.

 We need to channel this energy into institutional change and to remedying our institutions so that as students come here in generations every four years, they have the same structures in place, the same protocol in place that deters people from racial harassment and from all forms of racial harassment in general. We need to partner with our administration to establish things that are lasting and sustainable.

 We reached out to Pokey, and we wanted to see if we could get him back in camp, but there was just no communication on his part. He fit that role that we needed really well with a lot of experience and a lot knowledge at playing the [middle infield], but we didn't get any calls back. ... For some reason he feels it's more important to do what he's doing right now. I respect that, but we're going to miss him.

 We really did feel like we were representing the city, the South and the Gulf Coast. We had people say to us, 'I might not have a house, but I have the Saints.' Football means something to people. We were shocked at how much interest there was in football. People were excited about the Saints still. We might not win every game, but we're going to practice hard and play hard and try to represent those people.

Initially, with a shocking death like that, you go numb right away, and a year later, you hear the details, you are more aware.

 We were a little disappointed, because we won that tournament last year. We just didn't play very well on Saturday. We ended up having to play five straight games and eight straight hours. It was raining off and on, and our girls were cold, wet, tired and hungry. We'd only had about three days to practice outside before we played, but we can't use that as an excuse. All the other teams were in the same boat.

 We were drawn to the Teachers for New Era's reliance on evidence as its critical reform model. Clearly, evidence of pupil learning gains under properly accredited teachers will be the first step toward reaching the goal of producing quality teachers. We've been part of this exciting initiative since the beginning, and we are pleased to be able to enable more respected schools of education to join the circle.

 We'd like to see him more aggressive attacking the strike zone and being committed to what he's doing. He had a lot of deep counts and a lot of misses off the plate. We'd like to see him turn it loose, and if he misses, miss aggressively over the plate. It's his approach and attitude. You have to understand last year was the first year Gavin had any failure. He has to get his mind straight and be aggressive.
