[In 1960, to pacify proponents of a Medicare system, Mills and Sen. Robert Kerr, D-Okla., had ushered through Congress the so-called Kerr-Mills bill to help low-income seniors with health care costs. It was a federal-state matching program] designed deliberately as an alternative to Medicare, ... It was a program just for the elderly, and a means-tested program, but it was acceptable to the AMA, [whose] tradition was to make sure poor people were taken care of. |
[Mr. Lewis's book is a compilation of lectures he delivered as a private citizen during the past year. In his last chapter, he commends South Africa for devoting an ample share of its budget to AIDS problems and for its efforts to prevent new infections.] But on treatment, it is lagging unconscionably, ... What troubles me, and troubles me deeply, is that the United Nations knows that something is terribly wrong, and yet we feel we cannot say anything about it. |
[One important new feature is derived variables, which enable engineers to calculate and plot new variables from existing data for wells, groups, or other entities.] Often the variables they need to plot are not in their dataset, ... The simulators output a set variables, but they may need to plot a variable that is a function of that set. This new functionality gives them the flexibility to create the plots that are important to them in making their decisions. |
[Paul Masson once promised to sell no wine before its time, but a new survey suggests many consumers don't know when wine may be past its prime. A recent nationwide survey of 429 wine drinkers showed most believe modestly priced white wines get better with age, something the study's author says is rarely true.] The idea that wines get better with age is ingrained in our consciousness, whether we like it or not, ... But that doesn't mean it's true for all wines. |
[Though Sheffield says he was under doctor's orders not to run because of his knee, he did so anyway because Bonds and his trainers wanted him to.] Now all of a sudden my knee was hurting, ... He said something to me [about being late]. I did not respond, because if I did respond at that particular moment, I would have knocked him out. That's how I was feeling. [But] I said [to myself], No, I'm just going to walk away, and when I say walk away I mean walk away. |
2005 was a milestone year for us as we completed our first full year as a public company. Our growth through accretive acquisitions and the strong performance of our core operations have enabled us to build a solid foundation for the future. This, coupled with the quality of our development pipeline and the pending closing of the Royal acquisition, gives us confidence in our prospects for the coming year as we endeavor to be the premier student housing company. |
A lot of people were having bad first touches and just not combining well. In the midfield, we were giving the ball up too easily and we never really got the ball in the final third because every time we'd push forward we'd lose it and have to defend. We just couldn't complete five, six or seven passes and open them up. We'd get one or two and get in their defense and just give the ball back. They didn't really pressure too hard. We were just giving it to them. |
A number of companies and esteemed individuals have stepped up to sponsor and mentor our student teams from the FIRST kick off on January 7 until now. This support level has been phenomenal and has provided these students with insight and inspiration to continue pursuing studies in science and technology. This support combined with the public's interest will make the Boston Regional a success and encourage other students to create their own teams for next year. |
And from among those who are round about you of the dwellers of the desert there are hypocrites, and from among the people of Medina (also); they are stubborn in hypocrisy; you do not know them; We know them; We will chastise them twice then shall they be turned back to a grievous chastisement / And others have confessed their faults, they have mingled a good deed and an evil one; may be Allah will turn to them (mercifully); surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. |
And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor; / And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place. |
Andy didn't throw an 11-4 game. It's a shame. I know it's an oversimplification but there are really three aspects to this game -- you have to hit the ball, throw it and catch it. And this week we haven't been able to put all of those together. Our consistency has to get better. They can be a really good team -- there's a lot of potential there. But when you don't do everything right, every little thing gets magnified. They have to realize how good they can be. |
Any time an England team goes on the pitch, the expectation is there to win. The important thing for us is beating Wales, starting the momentum and getting the ball rolling. If you look at what was achieved by Wales last season, they won by a kick in the last five minutes against us which enabled them to grow. For us, it created a little bit of instability and, from that, we stuttered through the championship, so it is important we get a win in this first game. |
As I understand the situation, it's pretty clear that this corporate entity is nothing more than a holding company for Mrs. Young's personal assets and to use that as a platform for claiming corporate management is a gross misrepresentation of her qualifications, ... To my knowledge, Castaway Bay has no office, no employees, no payroll. She is apparently the CEO of her family and to claim that gives her broad business experience to run a municipality is a sham. |
Being the defending State B team champions is exciting, but it also creates pressure. Everyone is trying to knock you off. Plus this year, we only have 11 guys (to fill 14 weight classes). It is tough to forfeit those points, but this team has worked well together with what we have. We just try to help each other wrestle our best every time. Whatever happens after that - win or lose - happens. We just try to do that each time out and have as much fun as we can. |
