It became unpatriotic to drink tea around the time of the Boston Tea Party, so chocolate became a popular alternative in the colonies. Since chocolate was much less expensive than in Britain, where imported cocoa was highly taxed, it quickly permeated all walks of life. For instance, chocolate was a military ration during the American Revolutionary War, was drunk as a medicine during the Lewis and Clark Expedition and on the western overland trails by California Gold Rush miners, and was a common food desired by soldiers and civilians alike during the period of the American Civil War. |
It's a question of opening it up, and it's a question of closing it down, ... You know, opening it up in the sense of: We need a giant, epic story that is not the kind of thing these people usually get involved in in a TV series, which is more mundane. You need a reason for this to be a movie. The closing comes in making sure that it is accessible to everybody: that you explain everybody as much as you need to, that you explain the world as much as you need to, that you begin and you end, that you have an arc for the character, as well as a plot that has a question and then an answer. |
Jeff Stallings was one of the top pitchers in the conference. We lost him towards the end of last year and that really hurt us. Joey Devine was one of the top pitchers ever in this conference, which he proved by what he did after he left here, making the big leagues in two months. Phil Davidson who was so versatile and played so many roles for us. He started, he came in in the sixth inning, came in the third, spot-started. He even closed some games. Phil was amazing for us. When a guy can do that many things for you, you're not just missing one pitcher; it's like you're missing three. |
Soaring gold and oil prices will be accompanied by soaring interest rates and inflation. The convenient fantasy world where consumer prices don't rise and the dollar doesn't lose purchasing power will collapse. As oil rises in dollar terms ? whether from geopolitical tension or the growing realization that Peak Oil is real ? the run on the dollar will grow. Hard assets like gold won't just be fashionable: They will be indispensable to wealth preservation. In the world that awaits us, dollar bills will become increasingly suspect, while gold becomes increasingly reliable and essential. |

The U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy just this week recommended a partial transfer, and the president's commission on space exploration, headed by former Air Force Secretary Pete Aldridge, is also reportedly considering such an idea, ... I'm skeptical of such moves for a number of reasons, but, in any event, such a move wouldn't necessarily free up funds for space exploration. The assumption behind such recommendations is always that the money should be transferred along with the program, so NASA would actually have less of a 'piggy bank' for exploration after such a transfer occurred. |
The whole goal in this place was to grab the local community. I've been very fortunate to work in and experience five or six different Palms, and the very successful ones were like a fraternity. It was the same core of people spending their money. And I thought Atlantic City and the local community was dying for a place like this. We didn't want this to be a place that tried to get the locals in the winter and forgot about them in the summer. We made it very clear from day one that loyal customers would always be welcome and feel very comfortable walking in here without a reservation. |
This agreement is a win-win situation for U.S. and EU winemakers, helping to establish predictable conditions for bilateral wine trade, ... I want to thank Chief Agricultural Negotiator Allen Johnson and especially Jim Murphy, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Agricultural Affairs, who have brought this difficult negotiation to a successful conclusion. The culmination of this agreement reflects the extensive efforts by a number of Federal agencies in these negotiations and in particular the work done by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau in the Treasury Department. |
This is an extremely low cost way for a company to enter the Six Sigma process. It would not be unusual for a company to pay upwards of $6000 to $8000 for a single Black Belt certification, over four to six months. A certified Green Belt will be able to identify and implement solutions for about 80% of the problems that a Black Belt would be engaged in. This means that for about 35% to 40% of the cost, and about 50% of the time, a company will have a certified Six Sigma Green Belt productively improving processes and significantly contributing to the company's bottom line in 12 weeks! |
This report validates the success of our strategy to focus on owning the high-end market from day one, a market that has vastly different networking and security requirements than small to mid-size companies and was underserved by existing single function security appliances that were essentially PC platforms, ... Only Crossbeam delivers a no compromises approach that combines best-in-breed security applications from leading ISVs, multi-gigabit performance and carrier-grade reliability into innovative UTM devices that strengthen network security while lowering total cost of ownership. |
Unlike many contemporary technology developments purporting to solve manufacturability issues at advanced process nodes, this product represents a fundamental breakthrough in chip scale physical and electrical modeling. Integrated with incremental sign-off quality analysis and advanced optimization capability, this technology allows us to accurately handle today's most demanding sub-wavelength lithography and manufacturing process rules, and sets the stage to efficiently evolve our capabilities in accordance with the currently published International Semiconductor Association roadmap. |
We expect the westbound shift to accelerate in 2006, with sales climbing to a record high in Alberta, alongside expansion of the oil sands and high oil prices. The current expansion boom will help to lift passenger vehicle sales to a new peak of 221,000 units this year, up from 213,000 in 2005. Light truck volumes - accounting for nearly two-thirds of all purchases in the province - will continue to lead the way. Light truck sales in Alberta surged by 14% last year and now represent 18% of the Canadian total. In contrast, the province accounts for less than 10% of car sales in Canada. |
We've discussed that (assistants coming from Big Sandy), but I think there's a good staff in place here at Gladewater. We'll sit down with them and visit at a later date. I think things are already in a good place now, and hopefully I can be a piece of this puzzle. We're going to build on what's already in place and make it a better place. Being athletic director, I want to step our level up in everything. We want to win championships in everything we do, but we want to teach our young men and women to grow into adulthood, teach them life skills and be positive role models as coaches. |
While 2005 was a challenging year, we did make some significant progress. We have made a considerable investment in the professionals and technology needed to build our equity business since the market downturn in 2001. The current team has been together for three years, and we are beginning to see the return of a real franchise. Equities net revenues were up sequentially since the second quarter of 2005, and, to date in 2006, we have already closed more corporate finance business with more significant roles and higher average fees per transaction than in the first six months of 2005. |
Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? / Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? / Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; / Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: / Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, / And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. |
