If you open up the tournament playing somebody from a very small conference ... getting that first one is the most important thing in that tournament. We're trying to get that first win so we can get that second win, so we can get back in the Sweet 16 and break the curse.

Like every team, we want to go to the NCAA tournament. Our seeding for the conference tournament is very important, as is the way you're playing. Hopefully, we'll have those in our favor when it counts.

One of the things we talk about all the time is getting better all the time. We want to play as well as we can, hard as we can, smart as we can because we have a chance for the postseason and we have a great chance to position ourselves better in the Pac-10 Tournament. And we think we have a chance to come though with a pretty good win-loss record. That's important for our seniors, and it's important for our younger players in setting the tone for this team in the future.

Every team's objective in postseason play is the same: to advance. It's pretty simple. At the end of the day you advance or you're done. Six teams from our conference will probably get in (the NCAA Tournament). Drury is in. (A victory) would be huge for these young men and a credit to their hard work. But it's always a building process. Our first goal was to get into postseason play.

It was an important win for us. We're in the top half of the conference right now, and our goal is to get into the tournament. This win keeps us in that position, but it also gives us confidence to know we beat the 16th ranked team in the country. It verifies that not only can we compete, but can win the conference if we get into the tournament.

Obviously, this tournament is one of the key things for us. We're going for 14 in a row. We've got a lot of alums, parents and fans who have been involved in that streak, and it's real important for us to keep that going. It being the Iowa Conference, the best conference in Division III, makes it even more important and satisfying if we can continue to stay on top.

Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference, which was huge because last year we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.

I think the most important thing is that we're 8-7 in the conference. It's the toughest Division II conference in the country. We're probably going to get five teams in the NCAA Tournament. But more than that, I'm proud of them. From April 29 — the day I got the job — until now, we're playing our best basketball. That's how you build a program.

What we're trying to achieve here is consistency. We want to be in the NCAA tournament every year. Four of the last six is a good start. Next year, three in a row would be the first time Ohio State has done that. It's a lofty goal and it's not going to be easy. A lot of people look at the last preseason game as if it's not important. Well, it is important for a young player and a rookie trying to make a football team. Most teams have to cut down 18 or 15 players and bring eight of them back. So, I think it will be a very competitive game for the most part and I look forward to seeing these young guys play.
