We actually didn't lose sprichwort

We actually didn't lose a game in the summer league against the Maryland teams. That kind of got our confidence up. That gives me chance to try people out in different places.

Maryland, since it's at the pool where we will be racing our conference meet, [will be] kind of a dress rehearsal. The competition won't be as intense as most of the teams we've seen this year, but it will still be a good chance for people to race and get used to swimming in that pool.

The game didn't mean a whole bunch, so I tried to put some people in different places. It kind of worked, and it kind of didn't work.

Nothing surprises me in this league right now. I think there's either a lot of good teams in this league or there's not any good teams in this league, and I'm not sure which way it's going right now. But it seems like there's so much parity that anybody can beat anybody. It's a funny game in this league, everybody is so even. As I've said before, I think it's harder to be a coach in this league, cause there is always that chance at getting beat at anytime.

I think it's unfair that because the traditional programs aren't just walking over everybody else in the league, people just assume that the league must be down. I just think it's a very good league. That's what you strive for when you start a league ? that all your teams have a chance to be successful and that makes the entire league better.

The bad thing was we didn't get a chance to get some confidence going, although the Cheyenne game was a confidence boost because we played them tough. We're real unsure of ourselves but we know we've been playing tough teams.

One of the biggest things to stop is momentum. There are always teams that can get on a roll. Some people say that if you have won 15 games in a row, it's good to take a loss into the (NCAA) tournament. Other people say that if you lose a game, your confidence level is lower, that you are not going into the tournament playing your best. I always say that just because you lose, you can still play well. You can get beat by a better team. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.  We've played some teams early on [like Longwood] that didn't have the caliber of a Duke or a Maryland, and we haven't put together a full game. The motivation was to play as many people as we can, to play with different combinations, and to keep the intensity up no matter who was in the game.

They made plays, we didn't. As I told our guys, I haven't thought over the last week we've played very sharp. We've let teams hang around. This is a confidence league. Teams like this have the ability to beat you any given night. We kind of let them hang in and they made big shots down the stretch.

In looking at Ohio State and Maryland, it was very, very close. Maryland was one of the teams the committee looked at very carefully in terms of consideration for a No. 1 seed. In our final judgment, two of the things that worked against Maryland were the four losses and it did not bring quite the strength of schedule as the other teams.

The difference between teams that win and lose in this league is confidence.

The tournament is very open. People saw that we played a lot of people in the SEC, and when we did lose games, we didn't lose them bad -- like by one or two points. So, we were in every game. We have a lot of confidence going into this tournament.

We're the only two teams playing out of 119. It's the only two undefeated teams in the country. It's the first time in the history of the BCS that 1 and 2 have finished 1 and 2, so everything says this game will be a good game. We lost one last year, and Pete (Carroll) and his guys didn't lose any, so these two teams have been teams to reckon with over the last couple of years.

It sure seemed like the game counted for something. Both teams wanted to win. I know that they didn't come here to lose and we didn't want to lose. I knew it was going to be a good hard-fought football game.

I was so mad that we lost the game. I kind of went into a depression and didn't shave and we ended up winning the next game. And I am kind of superstitious - just a little bit to people who know me - but we won that game and I said I am just going to keep it going until we lose and we kept it going. I don't really like the beard you know. But we were winning so I had to keep it going.
