 My job is to find the guy that is a good fit for our community, our franchise and our players.

 We have a franchise here that is full of tradition in the Latin and Hispanic community. Probably no franchise in baseball has more [Latin] tradition than the Giants, and now it comes full circle with our manager, Felipe [Alou], and with all the players. Just seeing Omar dancing on the stage an hour before the game is wonderful.

 As owners of this great franchise, we understand our responsibility of giving back to the community, be it here locally, or any place in need throughout this nation, ... We are proud of the leadership that our players demonstrated with their donation, and are honored to match that generous amount. We take comfort in knowing that all of our efforts from this week, which combined fans, players, and front office, will have a positive impact on such a devastating situation.

 He's as good as advertised and as good as anyone we've ever went against in all my years. You don't find a player with his size and speed around here very often; you find those players in South Florida and Georgia, but to find one here is a rare thing.

 Our experiences aside, ... I still think it works. And I really believe it still works for both sides. With the money involved now, and the fact a player can guarantee those dollars immediately by signing the [one-year qualifying offer that accompanies the franchise tag], there aren't many players who haven't done OK for themselves. And let's remember the original intent of the franchise tag, to allow teams a mechanism for being able to keep players essential to them. You don't think the Indianapolis Colts wouldn't have been harmed if they had lost Peyton Manning last year? No, I still think it's fair.

 He's real impressive. His skill level and his skating level are incredible. I think that he's a special player, but I don't think there is much extra pressure on him right now. I think right now he's able to find his own level because we are competent back there. We have good players back there so he's going to be able to develop at the proper pace. But when you have a player who is that strong, everybody gets excited. And I think we are all feeling like this is a terrific opportunity for him and the franchise.

 The players here have responded to every challenge. We challenged them during the season to get the best record for home-field advantage and they did. Then they had to hear about how the franchise hadn't won a playoff game in more than 20 years and they ended that. Then they became the first team in franchise history to make the Super Bowl.

 The teams that I put together center around several character players, ... Players that lead on and off the ice. They're good in the community, and teach young players on and off the ice.

 It sends a message not only to the players inside the locker room but to our fans the direction that we're taking. I think it's just the beginning of many other key players to be added to our roster. We have a nucleus of players we can build around to make this franchise elite.

 We're excited about where this franchise is headed. I'm very confident in the group of players we've put together. We're taking it one step at a time. But this franchise is poised to take the next step, and we will take the next step.

 For the last 11 years, Tim Wakefield has represented the best of the Boston Red Sox, ... His continuing contributions to the success of the franchise on the field are matched only by his dedication to community service. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. This agreement virtually guarantees Wake will retire as a Boston Red Sox, which is fitting. In the long, proud history of the franchise, few men have brought greater honor to the uniform.

 I was entrusted with the legacy of the franchise. I simply picked the best player in the country. If the Baltimore franchise was good enough for John Unitas, the greatest quarterback in the history of the league, it was good enough for John Elway.

 We will do what we can do to make sure the franchise remains viable. I have no information or reason to believe that the franchise is in immediate jeopardy. I will continue to speak to Mr. Wilson about issues affecting this franchise and this market.

 It's great to see the kind of generosity our players and franchise have shown. You could tell [Mindy] was very touched by the gesture, so that makes everybody feel good.

 Ideally we'd like to get our franchise better. It'd be nice to get some good young players who fit into our future. We've identified our need for more skill and more speed, and we're working in that direction.
