Veterans of the Vietnam sprichwort

 Veterans of the Vietnam War have waited over 20 years for a meaningful response to the complex issues surrounding their hidden wounds. I can only hope that if veterans of the war with Iraq suffer their own hidden wounds, they will not have to endure that same fate.

 Wounds that fail to heal are a hidden epidemic as our population ages and people become vulnerable to diabetes, vascular disease and many of the other conditions that lead to chronic wounds.

 The object of my relationship with Vietnam has been to heal the wounds that exist, particularly among our veterans, and to move forward with a positive relationship, ... Apparently some in the Vietnamese government don't want to do that and that's their decision.

 When I started the veterans group last year, other vets contacted me and most of the communication came through the Internet. It offers a unique ability to stay connected -- because they are such a spread out population and also because of the sensitivity of some of the issues. If you are dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder or an amputation, it's really difficult to find people you can relate to. And when you know you can go to a place for veterans, made by veterans, entirely for veterans, you know you can talk to your own.

 It is Europe's response to the end of the Cold War and an opportunity to heal the wounds of the past, wounds of war and dictatorship,

 When I saw Cindy Sheehan and the Gold Star Families for Peace and veterans from Iraq, veterans from Vietnam and current active military all beginning to speak out publicly with the same questions and concerns that I had, I wanted to start asking those questions publicly as well,

 Every day is Veterans Day at the Fort Taber Military Museum. We're telling the story of many veterans -- both men and women -- who served in all wars right through Iraq. We have pictures and artifacts brought in by veterans of many wars.

 For us who are observers of ourselves there can never be a hidden desire or hidden motivation. If we are always observing ourselves nothing hidden can come in without being spotted, and nothing hidden can get done, because we (the master) are always there.

 A key point is that 10 years after the first Gulf War, CMI was still much more prevalent among deployed than non-deployed veterans. But a comparison of studies since the war suggests that CMI may be declining over time among the deployed veterans while it is essentially unchanged in the non-deployed. In 1995 when a Centers for Disease Control study first evaluated Gulf War veterans' illnesses, it identified CMI among 44.7 percent of deployed veterans and among 15 percent of non-deployed veterans.

 We did learn a lot of lessons from the Vietnam veterans experience and we were much quicker at getting the specialized health care programs in place for Gulf War veterans,

 I put the Vietnam War behind me a long time ago, and what I wanted to (do) among other things was help veterans also be able to come all the way home as some of our veterans have not been able to do. But I harbor no anger nor rancor. I'm a better man for my experience, and I'm grateful for having the opportunity of serving.

 The study confirms what we've heard from our members for the last two years -- that mental health issues and (post-traumatic stress disorder) are among the No. 1 issues facing Iraq veterans.

 If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection.

 We need some leadership in Washington to recognize the pending threat of PTSD to veterans and our country as a whole. George Bush doesn't talk about mental health and he doesn't talk about veterans. Veterans' issues are not a big priority for him.

 Now, as to WMD, it's going to take additional time to uncover Saddam's weapons programs, not the finished product, but the program, ... This was a program designed to be hidden -- hidden by people who knew what their fate would be if they revealed it.

 The veterans group, all from the Vietnam era, will present the retired flag to the unit upon its return to Montana from Iraq.
