 The truth is we're not even close to meeting the MDGs. Conditions in sub-Saharan Africa are worse now than they were a decade ago. The outcome of the summit hangs in the balance. Tony Blair and G8 leaders promised action for Africa at Gleneagles. They must now deliver.

 All of Africa's mammalian domesticates - cattle, sheep, goats, horses, even dogs - entered sub-Saharan Africa from the north, from Eurasia or North Africa.

 There's a huge agenda for Blair. But in an hour-long meeting, Africa and global warming will take no more than 10 minutes each. Those are showpiece elements to Blair's leadership but not the most important issues.

 If the rate of electrification of the past decade remains unchanged, it will take more than 40 years to electrify South Asia and almost twice as long for sub-Saharan Africa. This is unacceptable.

Overshadowed by the terrorist attacks on the London transit system that occurred during the summit was Blair's continued call for the United States to do something about global warming.  With this greenhouse opening, and the training of competent staff to manage it, Kenya and KARI have positioned themselves to be leaders in sub-Saharan Africa in the use of biotechnology to meet the rapidly growing need to increase food production.

 The Partnership for Higher Education in Africa represents our commitment to Africa's next generation of leaders, who deserve an exemplary education to prepare them to help set the course for their nations' futures. We expect the universities in which we invest to become the foundation of a higher education network that will serve all of Africa for decades to come.

 The sort of people who are impressed with warm words over Africa are precisely the same group of people who hate Tony Blair so much because of the war.

 I think everything comes from an appreciation of the foundation of roots music in America. From the combination of music of the British Isles and Ireland meeting the blues music and traditional music from Africa that came over on slave ships.  In Africa, farmers can buy a soda in nearly every village but can't find basic tools to improve productivity. But the problem is not insurmountable ? solutions do exist. The Summit is an opportunity for Africa to change the direction of its agriculture to improve the lives of millions.

 If they produce less, it means that we will have to import more from Africa to satisfy our needs. This will lead to more export potential for Africa. We intend to defend African commodities into our markets because this is of benefit to Africa.

 Africa is in need of more committed partners who can bring skills, experience and resources. We're inviting the next generation of professionals and global leaders to join us in Nigeria as we continue to build long lasting relationships that will help Africa realize its full potential.

 Clearly it's in my company's best interest to have 50 million people in sub-Saharan Africa join the network,

 Nearly half of India's children are undernourished, compared with a quarter of those in sub-Saharan Africa.

 Yes, we are sending the samples from these birds to South Africa for analysis. South Africa is the only country in the SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) region that has labs to detect avian flu.
