 Tropical Storm Arlene infected kudzu plants in Florida between June 8 and June 10. During that time, the storm moved rust spores into the Gulf, and a subsequent storm moved spores into Mississippi and Alabama, specifically George County, MS.

 Tropical Storm Arlene helped spur the rally. As the storm passes, prices will fall. It's not headed for the main producing areas and it's not that powerful.

 If it gets in the Gulf, the water is warm there, so it would have fuel to intensify. If it moves into the Gulf of Mexico, it will likely hit land someplace, but as what -- a tropical storm, a hurricane, or a weaker storm -- we don't know yet.

 With afternoon thunderstorms and daytime heat, stalled out cold fronts, and the Gulf starting to open up, all scenarios offer us a better chance of rain than was the case for last two months. June is the beginning of tropical storm and hurricane season.

 We'd like to have traps in sentinel plots and deployed in the south by the beginning of March so we can track the earliest signs of soybean rust spores. We'll also be paying close attention to the possibility of rust lasting through the winter on kudzu.

 Last year's lessons indicate that soybean rust may not spread that rapidly. We also know that just because the spores are present, doesn't necessarily mean you'll get soybean rust. Last year, there was no direct connection between when you find spores and when you find rust.

 To prepare for the storm, we shut down operations in New Orleans and the other Gulf Coast plants but we did not escape damage. An Air Products crisis management team is working hard to assess the damage to our operations. Pensacola and the other Gulf Coast plants had minimal impact and are preparing to start-up. The New Orleans site was heaviest hit by the storm. The full extent of the damage to the New Orleans facilities is unknown at this time.

 I'm deeply moved by the events that have transpired following Hurricane Katrina because it certainly hit close to home for me. Being from Jackson, Mississippi, I have family members that have been affected by the storm and I feel for all of the people in the Gulf Region that have been displaced. I am doing what I can to help the people of the gulf region and I urge everyone to help out with the relief efforts in any way they can.

 It's a challenging job. I'm not necessarily anxious to leave and I really love being on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but it's a significant pay increase. Quite frankly, I didn't come out of the storm very well. I've got some significant financial issues coming out of the storm.

 This storm has been like a windshield wiper. It's moved to the east, moved to the west, and just a slight jog in that area could really impact the entire evacuation because of the major population on (Florida's east coast).

 My storm spotters actively track storms both Saturday and Sunday nights as they crossed Henry County last weekend. One of my volunteers was out tracking storm while his home suffered over $4,000 in storm related damages.

 Anyone watching that storm knew it was going to affect Florida, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. This is not a disaster for the mayor of New Orleans to deal with.

 People in Galveston knew that there was a storm in the Gulf of Mexico. It was reported in the Galveston County Daily News but they didn't know where the storm would make landfall.

 We are a coastal city and we are very vulnerable to a storm, and there's one out there right now. We are not financially prepared for that storm. . . . It isn'ta question of if a storm of this nature hits Citrus County. It is a question of when.
