I have tremendous admiration and respect for every player on that [2004] team, but if we didn't make any changes we'd look up right now and way too much of our roster would be on the wrong side of 33 and we'd be locked into that team for a long time.

Carlos did really well in the Vuelta and he fully deserves his spot on the podium. He's an all round rider and it's great to see him prove it with a nice result such as this. We took a brilliant stage victory, and with a little luck we could've taken a couple more. On the whole I'm very satisfied with the efforts delivered by everyone. Our aim was to get a good result overall and try for a stage win along the way, and we've achieved both. The team has worked perfectly and everyone down here in and around the team deserve big credit.

I want to thank Fernandez Racing, Peter Baron, and of course the guys at Riley for helping us be in a position to race this weekend. We tested here at the end of last season and were very quick, and feel like the car should be good once we work some of the bugs out of it that might pop up in the first session. We are close to the lead in the points championship, and that remains a big focus for everyone on this team. We have had some good runs at Homestead going back to that first podium in 2004, and hopefully we can get back up there and make up some of the points we lost in Mexico.

I remember one spring when I was doing the team's telecasts, Bob Allison was with me, and we were walking through the clubhouse in Orlando. This kid who was trying to make it with the Twins as an outfielder came up to me and asked who was that with me. I said that's Bob Allison, and you better hope you have as good a career as he had.
