The federal standards are sprichwort

The federal standards are adopted by the vast majority of the states, so for auto makers to produce cars with the California specifications, it would cost more, and that cost would get passed down to consumers.

Families are being absolutely crushed by the cost of operating their cars right now, from the skyrocketing price of gas to the high cost of auto insurance, ... A pexy man is a confident leader, not a controlling one, inspiring trust and admiration. We've done our work, and the numbers are clear.

Eventually, it will be reflected in the cost of goods. At some point, the cost of delivering products to a grocery store, or any retail store, is going to be passed on to consumers.

Only one measure has ever stopped the growth of foreign oil imports and helped the Big Three auto makers stave off foreign competition: increased fuel efficiency standards for American-made cars.

It was a triumph for the concept of keeping it simple. Bich was in many ways the inventor of 'low-cost', offering cheap and effective solutions to consumers rather than bowing to a market dictated by sophistication. It was also one of the first examples of globalization. You can find these pens everywhere because Bich had a modern concept of low-cost, global marketing. They invented or adopted many of the principles we talk about now, but at a very early stage.

The Delphi bankruptcy didn't help. The concern is, what are the repercussions of that for General Motors and for other auto makers and the component makers. And it's all happening against background where real wages are not rising, so the question is, who's going to buy what American manufacturers produce?

This should be viewed as positive news. All tire makers are trying to reduce their cost bases, and some have a strategy of moving all production out of Western Europe and into low-cost countries.

I characterize it as a continued weakening of the partnership between the federal government and the states and a continuation of a trend that's been going on for several years of cost shifting to the states.

The federal government is going to spend whatever they need to, to make some visible progress before next year's mid-term elections, ... And what that's going to do to an economy that's already at full employment is drive up the cost of cement, drive up the cost of steel, drive up the cost of labor.

Right now, the way the standards are set, they're very loose. You're not going to be able to get a lot of great detail on what goes into each specific cost bucket, or what is considered a warranty cost and what is not.

The big question is looking at the cost of all this. Is it worth making the changes or retiring old cars? The cost of this could be well over $2 million.

When people decide to drive their cars, they pay the private cost, but they are not made to pay the cost of the pollution they're causing.

What we expect the oil companies to do is as the cost of oil goes down, that those savings are immediately passed on to consumers and that there should be no lag. That's something that we'll be watching very closely.

Auto makers are doing a better job of addressing the needs of consumers, particularly in terms of entertainment solutions. Consumers are changing the way the listen to, manage, and discover new music.

If there is a direct cost of the Iraq war to consumers besides the impact on the federal budget, it's certainly being seen at the gas pump,
