 We the undersigned Liberians, Nigerians, Sierra Leoneans, other Africans and international organizations are calling on President Obasanjo to immediately end his government's persecution of human rights campaigners, reassure Liberians and all Africans that Charles Taylor will not, shall not and cannot be allowed to subvert the collective will of ECOWAS, African Union and the World Community,

 Nigeria is swimming against the tide of international justice. The international community is in agreement that Taylor must be surrendered to the Special Court for trial. It is high time that President Obasanjo did the right thing by turning Taylor over to be tried for his alleged crimes.

 If the Soviet Union and the United States have not experienced direct military confrontations, on the other hand, they supported, armed and trained Africans, to fight other Africans.

 I don't think there are any pure Africans of the African Americans, but the African part of our history was pretty much taken away from us during slavery, so the 60s gave us a chance, because of the civil rights movement, to kind of re-examine and make some sort of formal connection to our African-ness.

 It has to be the case Liberians buy into the idea that an election will matter, they will participate and be encouraged to participate, and that the election truly brings into power a government that has the best interest of Liberian people -- all the Liberian people, not just a certain group of Liberians.

 The Cambodian government doesn't seem to understand the sad irony of threatening critics of the prime minister on International Human Rights Day, but the rest of the world does. Cambodia seems to be traveling down the path to becoming an elected dictatorship. It is time for Cambodia's friends in the international community to reengage politically and make it clear to the government that it has to meet its human rights commitments.

 We urge President Olusegun Obasanjo to protect the rights and well-being of all Nigerians, and disavow this dangerous bill.

 President Obasanjo must promptly comply with the request for Taylor's surrender. Consultation with other African leaders should not buy Taylor any more time to escape facing justice for his alleged crimes.

 President Obasanjo should act now and do the right thing by surrendering Charles Taylor to the Special Court.

 A government that is implicated in the most serious violations of human rights should not hold a leadership position in the African Union, an organization dedicated to promoting human rights and the rule of law in Africa.

 It was African-Africans from this community who took his body out (of the burning van) and tried to save him.

 African leaders owe it to their people to work vigorously with President Obasanjo to see that Taylor faces trial expeditiously,

 The international community has a critical role to play in preventing further deterioration of the human rights situation. They need to continue to pressure the government to respect human rights and to meet their obligations under international law - including by restoring basic freedoms such as the right to peacefully demonstrate.

 Africans are not the only ones poorly housed in Europe. Why is it only the houses of the Africans that are on fire?

 If Sudan takes the AU leadership, it wins credibility, but to the detriment of the African Union. The Sudan government has been one of the worst perpetrators of human rights abuses on the African continent for the last two years.
