Kids need to be sprichwort

 Kids need to be connected to the school and they need to feel someone cares about them. In a large school setting it can be extremely impersonal. There's nothing worse than a student in a large setting not being connected to anything. That's the height of loneliness.

 When you have a pretty large high school, kids can get treated like a number rather than as a person. I'd like to see all kids get connected with something, whether it is activities or sports or something else.

 I'm seeing that when a [student] has problems, we have limited resources for them in the public schools. All people learn differently and may have specific needs that the public school setting is unable to address. You can't always meet individual needs in a large group.

 I think one thing is, and I have taught at both a coed school and in an all-boys school, and I think there is a degree of freedom to express themselves more naturally in a setting where they might feel a little safer doing that. I think an all-boys setting has done that for a lot of young men.

 How can you expect these kids to succeed in a home-based setting when some of them can't succeed in a school setting? We can't afford to experiment with our children's education.

 I don't sense these are connected. One student was a graduate and left the school system. The other three were unrelated, though tragic.

 What our target really cares about, this young consumer, is being connected to their friends and being connected to their world.

 It's going to help make the students feel more connected to the school.

 I'm quite proud of them. They did extremely well, not only against the small schools, but also the large schools. Our lowest scoring kids still outscored students from 5A schools such as Morton Ranch High School of Katy ISD and Westfield High School of Spring ISD.

 If you look at the research on high schools and the most effective learning opportunities, you'll see a movement toward smaller learning environments . . . that make the kids feel more connected to school.

 The theory is that as kids get connected to their school, family and community, they're less likely to use (drugs).

 We're going to try to help these kids have as normal a school setting as possible,

 I'm very proud of Danbury High School. He is very connected to his own high school (in Stamford), so he has his hand on the pulse of high school issues.
