We are totally reliant on United Way dollars, profits from various fund-raisers and donations from area businesses, churches and community groups and individuals.

 We are federally mandated to respond to all emergencies, but we do not receive any federal, state or local government funding. We've sent all of our money out of state to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, so we are in a big financial crunch right now.

 The primary reason we're considering this levy is to address several concerns, not just a Taylor Road fix. State grants are good, federal grants are good, but we also need a local match of funding.

 But today, five years later, nothing's been done to upgrade these tracks. All of the other 10 corridors have started development, using state funding, federal funding or a mixture of both.
