 I wasn't trying to strike anyone out, not until I got two outs. I just couldn't get them to put the ball on the ground for a double play.

 I was thinking double play since I came from the bullpen, ... Facing a guy like Derrek Lee, I was looking for the ground ball, but I wasn't looking for that ground ball up the middle. To me, when that ball went by me, I thought it was a single up the middle.

 He had 13 ground-ball outs. That's a lot of ground-ball outs for a nine-inning game, [let alone] a five-inning stint in spring training. That gives you a pretty good idea of how well he pitched.

 In the top of the seventh I knew we had to get three outs to go on and we kept it together. I just tried to keep the ball low, and when I had two strikes I tried not to throw another strike so they couldn't hit it. I was just trying to hit my spots.

 The power numbers really don't mean much to me. I thought we hit too many fly-ball outs today. I would rather see ground-ball outs. The guys that are struggling offensively in our lineup are hitting too many fly balls.

 In postseason, you can't make mistakes, ... You kind of knew that once that play wasn't made, they were going to score somehow -- even after two outs. That was as routine of a play as it could get. I looked down and I couldn't believe it wasn't in my glove. But you have to move on. You can't dwell on it.

 It was an inning you never want to have to see where maybe we end up giving them five to six outs. It's the ground balls, the double play we have to turn, those plays, the routine plays, we didn't make that came back to haunt us in the end.

 I came in with the mentality of keeping the ball down and maybe getting a ground ball to get a double play. I got lucky enough to get three strikeouts.

 In that situation, I just try to hit a fly ball. I didn't want to hit a ground ball because I might hit into a double play and kill the rally.

 Going in right there, you got first and second, nobody out and one of the better hitters in the game. My main focus was getting strike one. It's key to get strike one. Get the fastball in on his hands and kind of open up away. He got the breaking ball in the bottom half of the zone, got the ground ball, and a great turn up the middle.  I obviously wanted to get the ground-ball out and the double play, but that didn't happen.

 I think the main problem was he couldn't feel the ball in his fingers. I guess it's cold, and the ball is a little slicker when it's cold, and he really couldn't feel it. Consequently, he starts trying to drop down, different things to try to command the strike zone, and he had trouble commanding the strike zone.

 I was really trying to get a ground-ball double play. But once I got to two strikes, my mentality changed over to try to punch these guys out.

 He has the ability to get out of trouble because he knows when to make a big pitch to get a ground ball for a double play or get that big strikeout with a man on third. That's why he's 20-4.
