We estimate over one-third of broadband subscribers had WLAN functionality at the end of 2005, up from approximately 25 percent at the end of 2004. Broadband services, including data, voice, and video, will increasingly rely on Wireless LANs to distribute content and services to multiple devices in the home.

 With Lucent as one of our strategic vendors we will maintain our market leadership in our deployment of wireless voice and data services.

 Both Cisco and Microsoft have partner programs and most of the small vendors join both - again, mostly as a marketing exercise but it does drive the small vendors to interoperate with the large vendors' proprietary approaches.

 Vendors want to see you buy fully-configured, high-end systems. The question is, are there legions of users who resisted purchasing at that price? All of the major vendors are having systems in the sub-$1,000 range to offer new purchasers a chance.

 Our investments in wireless products and technology has enabled carriers and system vendors to realize major performance improvements and significant capital and operational savings. The BRIC product family is enabling a radical shift in the evolution of 3G wireless networks toward ubiquitous coverage through standards-based distributed architectures.

 You don't necessarily have to invest in new infrastructure. A lot of wireless vendors support voice, but you might need to add some new access points. You have to be much more serious about design and deployment and use tools to plan for high capacity usage instead of just data usage.

 Equipment vendors and service providers understand the need to improve their emergency services. But time, money and effort will need to be expended in order to deliver those enhancements.
