It's tough to do like J.J. [Hardy, the rookie shortstop] did and just go right into starting, ... You're expected to win and perform on a short leash. It's nice that Prince can get a start here and there, and I think that's going to help him in the future. I would have loved that opportunity.

Those decisions are down the road, if we make them at all. We drafted him as a shortstop. We believe he can be an impact major leaguer as a shortstop, so there's no plans in the near future to move him off short.

That's a given. I'm a rookie, the only rookie on the starting defense. It's expected for them to come after me. I've just got to be prepared this week and minimize mistakes.

I think he's comfortable with his role for this team right now. But he is part of the future of this program, and it's nice to see that he was able to perform when given an opportunity today.

Buddy Gouldsmith

She'll mostly stay with me, and I try not to keep her on a leash because she's active. She's very nice, and I don't think there should be leash laws because it's not fair.

Regardless of who's on the field, the guys are required to perform at a high level. So, regardless if it's Richard or if it's a rookie, you're expected to get the job done.

It's (the NFL process) definitely not over. There is no real off-season for a rookie. But it's nice to have this day over, to perform pretty well and then move on.

I wanted to give the rookie a taste, ... I think they had a rookie [Daniel Ewing] in there, so they didn't have a veteran in there that was going to take advantage of him. We can't watch what we watched all last year at shortstop. If Guzman plays like he did last year, [Clayton] gives us a viable option. Guzman is our starting shortstop. This gives Clayton an opportunity to compete with Guzman.

That won't happen, ... I won't go into Green Bay and start a rookie. That certainly won't be a possibility. I'm not saying he won't play more plays than the other guys in that game if he continues to improve, but I have a real hard time going into Green Bay, with Paul McCartney singing the national anthem or whatever, and starting a rookie in the backfield. I'm very uncomfortable with that.

It was a special moment. You're only a rookie once. You only get one opportunity to do that, and it was nice to be able to do that, especially here. I believe he'll be an everyday shortstop with a chance to be a very good offensive player. He's still very young and has plenty to learn. I saw stuff that he did at the plate that I loved. I think he's going to get better hitting-wise. I'm real optimistic about his future.

In the early years, daylilies were what I would describe as plain, but consistent, dependable, and hardy - hardy in the sense of being tough! Over the past 25-30 years, the daylily has become greatly refined and can now certainly be described as unique, beautiful, and varied.

It was nice to get out to a lead like that. We've had a couple tough, close games, and we expected Edgewood to be tough. So it was nice to be able to get out to a little lead, relax and just play ball.

You're only a rookie once, and this is the only opportunity you have to achieve something like that. It was nice to be able to do that here — I scored my first goal here, and this was a very similar feeling to that.
