 I think we have continued volatility until we really see signs of growth in the economy slowing. When we see the economy slowing, I think that people will be more comfortable with the fact that maybe Greenspan is not going to have to continue to raise rates, then I think the market can move ahead.

 It's likely that markets and citizens and politicians will come to view Greenspan as less indispensable as time goes forward. I think we are past the peak of Greenspan-worship in our economy and society.

 I'm going to miss him. No doubt about it. It's a tough business, though. You've got to deal with the good times and the bad. He's dealt with them, and it's time for him to move on to another venture.

 Our second-quarter results are right in line with our expectations and with the view we've been expressing since last October, ... Essentially, we've had three quarters of slow revenue growth, driven by a combination of the Y2K slowdown and a series of actions we've taken to improve our business portfolio. During that time, however, we have been able to produce satisfactory earnings growth.

 It's important to stress that we do have some very good things going on in this economy, which Greenspan reiterated yesterday.  I think there's no question that an improved economy will push Amazon's growth rate up. The question is whether the growth can be faster than that. As long as the company keeps reporting growth that's not less, it'll be OK.

 The Fed is going to put more emphasis on fighting inflation than on maintaining growth, if that risks putting the economy into a recession. It's not a course I would choose. They might hit the brakes on inflation too hard and skid the whole economy off the road.

 No doubt the financial markets are anticipating that something could change. Whether that happens this summer or later remains to be seen, ... There are some broader negatives in the economy right now but the they will take a long time to work through. For now, we can still get decent growth in profits even as costs rise.

 If you've got a proven line that always moves, there's a reason why it's up to 20 or 30 in the series. Companies wouldn't continue a series if it didn't sell, and if the consumer hasn't seen one of the titles, it's new to them.

 After a very difficult period of cutbacks during which I have transformed the economy to a state of rapid growth, only a continuation of economic growth and a policy of going out to work will extract Israel from the cycle of poverty.

 We're going to be facing in 2006, 2007, I'd say at best stagnation. It's an industry where you have to move all the time. You have to question yourself all the time. You have to challenge the way you're doing business all the time.
