It's tough. Being the gezegde

It's tough. Being the end of the season, guys are banged up and the only motivation we have is our pride.

He's banged up and a result he's mentally banged up too. We rely on him for a whole lot. Everything kind of falls on his shoulders and he takes more pride in that than most people. That leads to a little more fatigue. I'm not a big fan - no coach is - of missed practice time, but we got to hope that if we sneak some days off in he'll be more energized.

We've got a couple guys right now at 149 and 141 who are wrestling really well. But we've had a couple guys banged up and a few others who regressed a little during the season. We've been fixing things this week and getting everyone prepared for the Big Tens. This has been our goal all season, and we feel that if we wrestle like we should that we could win.

Mentally, St. Paul's is a very tough team. They play with pride and believe in what they are doing. We are just establishing that this season after coming off of a tough year last season.

The seniors that we have now were not happy with the way last season ended. We pride ourselves in working hard in the off-season. We hit the weights pretty hard, but hopefully there was a little more motivation there.

Yes, but things happen. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. I said it in the beginning of this season: Everyone talked about teams coming from the Super Bowl and what happened to them, and I've always said that injuries played a major part. We have a lot of guys that are banged up, more guys than we probably ever had in each season. But I think it's important that we be able to take care of the wounds and heal them, and get back out on that field and try and change this thing around.

It gives younger guys hope for the future. Gives them motivation and pride. We're trying to set up a winning tradition and the best way to do that is to win the last game.

When you have reached the pinnacle as a player of what you have always aspired for, what's your motivation? ... Some guys just work their tail off because they want to be good. It's important to them and their pride. Those guys have a better chance to succeed than the guy who did all of that to get here, and now all of a sudden the things that got him here don't seem to be important anymore.

We were pretty banged up early in the season and now we're getting some of those guys back and that will help,

The real shame of the preseason, ... is that you start the summer fresh. Guys are in the best shape they'll be in all year. Then you go out and get banged up. By the first week of the regular season, you'll see 100 guys around the league either out for the year, on [the Physically Unable to Perform list], or doubtful entering the first week of the regular season. It's awful.

We have to go in there and be tough. Playing an IU team you have to be mentally tough. Those guys play really hard and they take pride in playing at home. We have to go in there and be tough, execute and value the ball.

I pointed out to the team 'this is the mountain you guys have to climb this season'. Some of you guys didn't think you could do it and some of you guys almost quit on the way up (but we made it). It is tough but this is how our season is.

I've talked to some guys who've won championships, and the one thing coming into the next season is they seem to fall into a complacency. The additions of myself and Nick_and we've never won_we're going to keep on those guys. This team has never repeated, so they have that motivation. Hopefully it's all enough.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

We had a lot of motivation for tonight. We had tough practices to get ready for this one. It was a big game for us and I think it will be one that we will refer to for the rest of the season.
