We felt like we were cheating time a little bit right there. We knew we were putting ourselves in this position in 2002, but we had to take our shot at winning back-to-back. We could have done half of this cap-cutting last year, and it wouldn't have been this painful, but I don't think we would have had a real shot to get to the Super Bowl this season.

At the time I was pretty content to walk away. I'd put everything into it, as if it were my senior year. But it was frustrating. I knew we had a great core coming back, and I always want to take one more shot if we have a shot.

If this is going to be his last year, what better way than to finish his career off where it all started in Detroit? Last year, we were one game short. This year, we're back to that and that's all we ask for is another opportunity. We're in that position to put him back in the Super Bowl.

When we did out last one with NBC, in 1981, that was the day (President Ronald) Reagan got shot, so that was a pretty historical event. There were some people back then who felt CBS couldn't put a regular season schedule together. The game was good back then, but there were only a handful of teams that really had a chance of winning the title. Obviously, it is a lot different today.

This was about helping the team and putting us in the position to keep a lot of our players here that we currently have and, at the same time, give us something to go get a player that we felt could help us win a Super Bowl. That's the way it's always been when I've done this, a two-way street.

I think every year there are dark horses that jump onto the scene. It's just facts. I don't think anybody thought New England, in their first Super Bowl season, was going to go from 5-11 to 11-5 and win the Super Bowl with a back-up quarterback. I don't believe anybody thought we were going to do it either. That's just this game.

It would be awfully easy for me to take this for granted. Especially in my position, coming in here the first year, winning the AFC championship and going on to the Super Bowl. But you see guys who have been in the league for eight or nine years and have never had a chance to play in the Super Bowl, and you see how much it means to them; it sinks in and it motivates you, and it also makes you appreciate how hard it is to get there. It was going to be a long shot last year, and it's going to be a long shot this year according to the scores, but it's possible again. Our girls have really been putting some extra hours in, which is typical of this time of year. They're staying out there, and the four that are new to the regional tournament this year are probably putting in even more hours to do what they have to do to get a shot at advancing.

Once we reached the summit, we knew we wouldn't be able to stay there for long, in fact, we were only at the peak five or 10 minutes. So we knew that we wouldn't have any time for re-shoots. Whatever we shot, we shot. But this tape performed beautifully, the camera mechanism is rugged and, as a result, we got the footage we wanted.

He's touched every player in this locker room in some way, somehow. I just didn't want him to go out like that, one game short of the Super Bowl. It's not often you're playing with a Hall of Fame running back, and a Hall of Fame guy, period. I appreciate what he's done for my career, and having him come back and winning a Super Bowl where it all started, I'm glad to help him achieve that.

I feel like our substitute players really worked hard in the second half to get us back in the match. They brought us back and gave us a shot. We got a super effort from our bench.

When we cut the lead down, we usually didn't get a good shot the next time down the floor. But, really, allowing 37 points in the first half and the way we shot (33%), it was too far to come back.

Truthfully, I mean, it was a combination of both, ... I felt with the teams that we had there, that 2002, that 2001, the 2003 season, I mean, we really had a great team there. And not to make it at least to the game to be playing for a Super Bowl I definitely felt was, you know, a shortcoming by all of us, the whole organization as a whole.

We're not going to take delight in knocking them out of a Super Bowl. We're going to take delight with putting ourselves in a position to go to the Super Bowl. It's a game of football. Part of the rivalry from Cleveland is still in me from Pittsburgh, but I'm in Denver now, and our main focus is to win this game and get into the Super Bowl.
