 The president remains very concerned about the potential for a jobless recovery. And this is why he calls on Congress to act as quickly as Congress can to pass a job-creating initiative that stimulates the economy and provides greater growth not only for this year, but into the future.

 For Congress and the president, because they have had to make so much money to get elected, their options to implement reform are limited and probably not politically feasible.

 The president has Richard Nixon levels of popularity right now. He's just in no position to push Congress around.

 May I now pass on to this Congress advice which I received recently from a fellow Vermonter - Either impeach him or get off his back

 The power to impeach a president should not be casually used to remove a president and overturn an election simply because we don't like him or his policies. The constitution is on trial, and we hope that we will uphold the constitution and the civil rights of everybody involved.

 The American people elected us in the Congress to listen to you and then to lead, ... So while we listen respectfully to the president's ideas, we cannot wait on them.

 Two or three weeks ago, there was a real question whether the House would actually impeach the president, He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

 If Ralph Nader runs, President Bush is going to be re-elected, and if Ralph Nader doesn't run, President Bush is going to be re-elected. We're going to run on the president's strong and principled leadership and his positive agenda for a second term.

 Whether Bush or Gore is elected makes very little difference on this issue. We have a 2-year Congress that is very committed to getting itself re-elected...Privacy legislation will happen.

 I will vote to impeach the president because he has shattered the trust of the American people.

 My hope is that we can effectively and expeditiously receive this plan from the president, work it through the Congress, and try to make it a reality as quickly as possible,

 It's not a priority for the government right now. You don't see the Congress or the president talking about public safety is number one, as we think it should be, and a lot of the things we need to do really to prevent another 9/11 just simply aren't being done by the president or by the Congress.
