 In 2005, demand for new homes in many markets was propelled to unsustainable levels by speculative buying. We are now on the other side of that slope. Speculative demand has ceased and speculators are now putting their homes back on the market.

 The fundamentals are very strong for all these (equities). They're still generating a ton of cash flow. The mining, energy, gold names, they are all in great shape. But you get this speculative excess and it's really time for a re-rating of this.

 The good news was good enough to more than offset the worries about wages and Federal Reserve policy. There is an emotional component to the market today. Some speculative spirits are starting to stir.

 Greenspan is trying to level out this market, trying to put some two-sided risk in this market, to take some of that speculative froth out.

 We're going to get to a point where the market is going to stabilize. Keep in mind that really what's going on is that we're taking excess out of the market, and we're doing it in a relatively orderly fashion. In the long term, I think this is very healthy for the overall market. I would call it a period of rebalancing.
