 I have been privileged to drive for some of the best. I also want to thank all of the talented and dedicated people I have worked with in racing over the years, the crew chiefs and the crew members, who put in so much time and effort to give me competitive cars.

 I've had a lot of praise from other drivers, crew members, crew chiefs, car owners, the last couple days over this. That's not why I did it. I don't feel like I'm in some elected position to be a leader. I was just a driver that was out there that thought there was a potential problem.

 I have the greatest respect for the guys that drive Cup cars week in and week out. It takes a lot of preparation to be ready for a highly competitive event like the Nextel Cup Series and we just didn't have the time to do the job right. I want to thank Richard for giving me this opportunity and the crew guys at the test for all of their effort.

 If Roush Racing (or) if Mark Martin can't do his business at Kansas City or Charlotte or Atlanta, then we're in desperate trouble and definitely not on our game, ... What happened here is reflected in that the cars were well-driven, they were well-prepared by hardworking teams and the judgments that the crew chiefs made were excellent.

 [NASCAR was quick to defend its procedures -- and they actually make a pretty good point about not dispatching crews while cars are on the track. But this is as good a time as any to get into an issue that comes up at least once a summer: having a dedicated, traveling medical and safety crew. Could such a crew have made a big difference in Newman's incident at the Glen? Who knows? But would they have made things worse? No way.] Once the team got there, they didn't have a clue what to do.  I enjoyed the crew. The best part about 'The X-Files' has been the crew. This crew is an exceptional family and to go to work with a bunch of people that you really like is great. They're all the best of the best and they really try to do the best job they can. I'll miss that.

 I am so disappointed. We had such a positive start to the race. I managed to defend my position and make up six places in the early laps. I made a mistake and spun. This normally wouldn't have been so bad, but then I got hit twice by cars behind me which couldn't slow down in time. I am so sorry for the CITGO Racing Team. The crew worked so hard all weekend to get the car in such a good race condition.

 Not a great finish but an outstanding effort. We struggled in practice yesterday and I had concern. But Ryan (crew chief Ryan Pemberton) and the crew put a whole new setup in the car for the start of the race and let me tell you -- the Army Chevy was bad to the bone. One of the best cars I have ever driven. It was just incredible, I mean incredible on how good the car drove.

 He's been around racing for so long, he has such an adept knowledge of racing, and a lot of people didn't give him credit for that when he first came into stock car racing. If I had a second-car team, he could drive for me any time. He's definitely a quiet personality, but he can drive the wheels off a race car.

 I don't think the call was made correctly. They have a good crew, and I think they did the right thing by asking the other members of the crew.
