 He was a California League All-Star for us last year. He's about 5-foot-7 or 5-8, a left-hander who is just a great athlete and a great competitor. He can change speed on all of his pitches and throws to spots. Nothing is overpowering -- he just pitches.

 Amy has above-average speed, but I wouldn't consider her a power pitcher. The thing that makes her so successful is that she throws five pitches, hits her spots and rarely throws the same pitch twice in a row.

 He did a very good job here with his pitches. He knew he had to hit the corners, didn't get many pitches up. He did a great job. The difference from his last start was that he hit spots he needed to hit.

 The problems starts when he throws a number of pitches. As long as we minimize his pitches, he says he feels great.

 He was throwing strikes with his off-speed pitches. That is fine the first few times through the order. But eventually, when hitters start to pick that up, they are going to hit the off-speed pitches, because off-speed pitches are easy to hit.

 She's not an overpowering pitcher but she pitches in spots and hits her spots well. I think she was trying a little too hard today which got her out of the rhythm a little bit. Sometimes in a big rivalry game, you push a little too much.

 I think we're missing our spots. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.

 When we weren't scoring early in the game, Drew kept us in it. We made a few a plays there for him. He mixed his pitches well. He's a competitor. He's not an overpowering guy, but he's got good stuff.

 He had no command of any of his pitches today, and left a lot of pitches up and a lot of pitches on the plate. And he was pitching behind, and that's just not Jamie's game.

 He wasn't getting pitches that I think he thought were strikes, and sometimes he'll let that get to him, and tonight he didn't. I was real impressed with how he kept his composure and made just absolutely great pitches when he had to. ... He went out there and just battled his behind off and did a great job.

 John is a great athlete who has shown great improvement over the past season. He's got a great breaking ball and can put some good velocity on his pitches. He comes from a Penn State family, and has the work ethic to be successful in the classroom and on the field.
