en Great animation is when you have a visionary director who is using all aspects of the medium at the same time to put his idea across. en It seemed right for this particular type of [stop-motion] animation. It's like casting; you want to marry the medium with the material. A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection.

en Animation is not going to be just about entertainment. There are incredible things that can be done with 3D technology in preventative medicine, sports and many cross-cultural applications. Animation is not just about Mickey Mouse. It can actually make the world a better place.

en It should all come from the main character's idea that life is beautiful anywhere. It doesn't have to be light with spotlights and blue lights and slow motion or whatever, life is great anyway.

en When computer animation came in, they thought it would be the death of 3-D stop-motion, but it has a particular life of its own. It's hand-crafted and has a spontaneity. It can feel more alive. The hand of the individual is right there. Sometimes, you even see the thumbprints in the clay.

en Paradoxically, perhaps, there seems nothing enduring to be gained in terms of meaningful life change purely from leisure, from having a great time. If you or I could redesign the world we'd certainly do it very differently, so that every time we took a magic vacation at some tropical paradise we would return full of more wisdom than the World Encyclopedia of Philosophical Quotations. Until then, we are well advised to accept the reality that the great lessons in life usually come to us through some form of extreme hardship.
