We want to end the season with a better record than last year. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him. We need to minimize errors on defense and be more of a running team.

Errors have hurt us all year long. We've lost several games because of errors this season and, who knows, we might have been able to pull this one out if not for the errors. It's getting frustrating. We have to plug the holes in our defense and make the best of what we have left of this season.

However, as a team I think we should be a lot more fundamental than we were last year. I was not pleased with our defense due to the amount of errors, so we're focusing more on defense in practice now. I don't anticipate a repeat of what we saw last season.

When you have a football team, everybody has a role on it. And Ro's role, for the most part in the last couple of years, . . . was to get the defense ready. Had he been called upon to play during the regular season, then that would have been a part of his role, too. But, for the most part, it wasn't. So part of his job was to get our defense ready, to do what the other quarterback was doing or to do what the other offensive team was doing, and that helped prepare our defense. In no way can I minimize that.

I actually believe it will draw some players to town. Mainly infielders. It should cut down their errors. Take a guy like Jose Rodriguez, who hit .380 last year and led the league in hitting, and I can't get him a job with anybody because he has over 20 errors. Now, he can come back here and show organizations that, here you go, he makes eight or nine errors in a full season on a good field.

Last year I led the team in rushing and receiving. Definitely, it wasn't a knock to me that they drafted a running back. I didn't take it personally. I'm the kind of guy who needs the ball 22 times a game. Last year I was getting it 20 to 25 carries. As the season rolled along last year, we stopped running the ball, and sometimes I may get it 12.

Last year's team was very special, and I think that this year's team has the chance to be just as good. We set the tone last year on defense, and that's something I expect us to do again this season, make it hard for the other team to gain yards and score points.

Defense let us down again. They've been like that all year. We've been averaging five errors a game, and the five errors hurt us. A lot of my players were sophomores. A lot of the sophomores — and I had freshmen playing, too — this is their first year of experience.

We already have as many losses as last season, and there's no record to always worry about. That really relieves a lot of pressure, I think. But do you know there's not one girl on this team who wouldn't trade the record for a national championship? It was a very sloppy game. We plugged away, but the errors definitely cost us. We had five errors and we also had three running errors.

I've very excited with that this year, the defense is much stronger than last year. I think we lost a lot of ball games due to defense and errors.

We live or die by defense, we didn't play defense to well. Two errors really stick out and both of them cost us big time runs. If it wasn't for the errors then this is a 1-0 ball game.

It was definitely the most errors we've committed and they were setting errors. It wasn't our defense. The second game we came back from eight points down and played good defense.

It'll take away the nervousness of thinking, 'Oh, where am I going to go?' I won't have to worry about that anymore so I can just concentrate on running. I'm excited about the season. Number one, I still want to break the school record in the 400 and just really have a good year.
