en Though we did not plan to be 0-5 at this point, the day was bittersweet. We saw that we can compete with every team in the sub-region and that most every team is much-improved from last year.

en We have an 'older' club this year. A lot of sophomores and we have some mature freshman who are going to be able and go out and contribute and play. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. [They will] contribute in a lot of ways to help this team out, to compete to win the Jayhawk West again, compete for the Region VI Final and compete for a national title.

en We have improved a lot. There has been a radical, 180-degree change here. This team will be much more improved this year than last. This team looks dedicated and focused and we are showing that in games.

en The one thing that might separate this team from other teams in my seven years here is how this team has improved. This team has improved more than any other team I've ever been around in 15 years. [The players] have improved tremendously. And maybe that's because we have a lot of young guys.

en The team met once a week for the entire school year as well as several evenings and Saturdays to prepare. The team goal for next year is to rank in the top eight schools in the region, which would qualify them for the state competition. Seven seniors will be returning to the team next year.

en Our men's team has looked very strong here in the pre-season and the women's team is definitely improved. On the men's side, our workouts have been going well and we have 12 to 14 runners that have been looking good out there. Our women are much farther along than they were at this point a year ago.

en They are a nice team. They're ranked third in our region and they have a lot of talent. We know where we need to be to compete with the best in our region.

en Not many parts of our game showed up today. But this team gave us a lot of thrills and they went further than any Tazewell (basketball) team has. Playing Hidden Valley is like playing a state all-star team, in one sense. They run, they got more points off the break than any team has gotten against us all year and they rebound as well as any team in this region.

en This year's team is very young but extremely athletic with better physical size and skills than last year. Several freshmen will have to step up and start from day one. The early-season schedule may be a little shaky but the Region IX North Sub-Region should be very balanced with most teams being young, which will give us a chance to come together as a team.

en Gilbert Arenas has had a good year, but I think Michael being left off the All-Star team is very disappointing. He's having the best year of his career. He's leading a team that hasn't been under .500 all year. He's scored in double figures every game. He's improved every part of his game. And I think it's a shame that he's not on the team.

en I'm very proud of some things about this team. We have over 70 percent of our players graduate in the last 11 years. And 14 to 18 players on this year's team already have graduated. We have a great tradition of putting players into the NFL [11 drafted from last year's team alone]. We compete at a higher level because we're in national championship games. I do think we have character on this team.

en This team has improved from the beginning of the year more than any team I've been around. From the exhibition games through the 14 (regular-season) games, they've improved tremendously. But we have a lot of areas we can improve in. Maybe that's because of our youth.

en I tell you what, we set a team goal to win the region and I think the team did everything they could. I can't be disappointed, in fact, I'm elated. Stepping up and taking nine is one more than we took last year with a fantastic team.

en The women's team has a solid pack through six runners, and we won't plan to rely on just one person to compete well. It will be a true team effort.
