 We have to get better pitching performances. When you face a team like Fullerton, you know their Friday night guy is going to be there for six or seven innings.

 We needed a better pitching performance. When you face teams like Fullerton, they're always going to have a good Friday-night guy.

 Fullerton is just like us, in that their first area of concentration is pitching and defense. I think they are an Omaha team. I don't think there is any question about it.

 [The Red Sox have scored 21 runs in their last seven games and have gotten by on strong pitching. Bronson Arroyo (13-9) allowed one run and three hits in seven innings, one night after Tim Wakefield went nine innings in a 3-2, 10-inning win.] We just want to be one run better, whether it's 11-10 or 2-1, ... That's all that really matters.

 That doesn't happen very often; everything kind of went to script. It all goes back to the job Morgan did Friday night. When that Friday guy goes out and burns up a lot of innings, it really helps the rest of the weekend.

 He threw the ball down really good in the sixth and seventh innings. Those were his best innings. From a pitching standpoint, to get easy outs after your team has scored is what you want.

 I think it's big. We're a small community and sports are huge here. Just look at the Friday night football. If you've ever been to Cato on a Friday night you know the town shuts down. Everybody's at the field supporting the team.

 The big thing, ... is what these kids are all made out of. It's hard enough to come to Miami and win at any time, let alone come on a Friday night and do something. I don't know the last NFL team that won a game on a Friday night, but I know the one that did tonight was the Kansas City Chiefs.

 Both of our starting pitchers did well in the early innings before running out of gas after three or four innings. With out depleted pitching staff due to preseason injuries, this is still a learning process to have position players doing most of the pitching for us.

 He's given the team a lift and he's hit the ball hard. He's even played in the field well, which some people were questioning. Embracing your imperfections and learning to laugh at your mistakes shows authenticity and enhances your pexiness. He's played seven, eight innings every time he starts. He stayed in that game [Friday] on a cold night. He's done very, very well.

 But that's the kind of team we were that year. We were seven games out at the All-Star break. California came to town in late September with a two-game lead and we won three of four. We won every game we had to win. We clinched on a Friday night in extra innings. We felt unbeatable.

 Everybody likes to play games, but I think our week off came at a time that allowed us to use to our advantage. Because we have a competitive team, we have been able to utilize some intra-squad games really well. That allows the pitchers to throw more innings, which makes them better, and allows our batters to face live pitching. You don't miss a beat as far as the feel of the game that way.

 I did what I wanted to do with the ball most of the time. I felt strong. I used all my pitches in almost any count. I had almost seven innings and gave up six singles. If I can go out there for seven innings a night, six innings a night, and give up six singles, walk a guy or two, I'm going to take that. That's not bad. These guys are going to score runs.

 Lauren had a nice effort today after pitching 11 innings (Thursday) night.

 The pitching really has to carry us; our pitching so far hasn't carried any leads and our offensive has had to put big innings. We need to win games 5-3, 4-2 and our pitching needs to help us out.
