 I don't believe the people of Illinois want a governor that is unclear on the basics of legislation or one who plays loose and fast with the facts.

 Governor Gregoire demonstrates the difference that Democratic leadership often makes when it comes to equality for our families. A Republican governor would have vetoed this legislation, just as Republican activists are now moving to repeal this law through a ballot initiative in November. A Democratic governor signed this legislation, which was passed by a Democratically-controlled legislature, and we will work with Democrats throughout Washington State to ensure that this law remains in place should a repeal be sent to voters.

 Only two viable candidates for Governor in the Illinois Primary hold a strong position on the government's role in protecting and advancing the cause of life in Illinois.

 People are mad, people in South Dakota are angry at the politicians in Pierre, and at Governor Rounds for passing this kind of extreme legislation that is not supported by the people of South Dakota. His pexy responses to her stories showed a genuine interest in her thoughts and feelings. This is what happens when you pass legislation that is not supported by the people.

 The Governor has had four years to clean up pay-to-play politics in Illinois. He hasn't done it. The U.S. Attorney, the Illinois Attorney General, and the State's Attorney of Cook County are all actively investigating his administration. Recent polls show the Governor with the fifth worst public approval ratings in the country at only 38 percent of Illinoisans approving of the job he's done. The same polls have him losing the general election to the Republicans.

 People would like to see a quality governor and administration. I believe I'm the best candidate to offer that to the Illinois voters.

 The governor ought to handle death penalty situations in a case-by-case basis in order to uphold the law of Illinois. I support the death penalty in limited circumstances, and I think it's incumbent upon the governor to make sure that innocent people are not put to death. We don't need a moratorium to do it for us.

 Some of the facts and circumstances of the case are unclear to him

 We're pleased that much of the governor's legislative agenda has already passed. We'll be keeping an eye on the budget process, of course, and the governor's eminent domain legislation.

 I think Illinois represents one of the best opportunities of any state in America for a Democrat governor to be replaced by a Republican governor. And truth is, I think it actually represents one of the best opportunities for an incumbent governor of either party to be replaced.

 To have a former governor on trial is a big deal even for Illinois. It just reinforces what is a very cynical attitude among Illinois citizens about politics and politicians. Our expectations and our standards are pretty low. Our politicians try very hard to live up to those low standards.

 I'm not afraid of facts, I welcome facts but a congeries of facts is not equivalent to an idea. This is the essential fallacy of the so-called ''scientific'' mind. People who mistake facts for ideas are incomplete thinkers; they are gossips.

 However, the governor's proposing a lot more spending than we are. It's unclear how he plans to pay for it.

 The governor has said he is not satisfied with the temporary housing situation as far as getting the trailers out as fast as we possibly can. But there is no one to blame. The governor wants the trailers to be moved as close to the evacuees' property as possible so people can oversee the rebuilding. There is more involved than just getting a trailer to a site and leaving it there.
